Universal Skills All Learners Should Know How to Do - User Generated Education | Tools | Scoop.it
This morning I was thinking about the things that all young people should know how to do regardless of income, geographical location, life goals, etc.  I started a list – see below.  Some have “always” been true – some are unique to this century of learning.  Let me know of any other universal skills you believe young people should know how to do.

50 Apps for the Foreign Language Classroom - teachingwithipad.org | Tools | Scoop.it

"I enjoy discussing iPad and other edtech resources with my colleague and friend Sylvia Duckworth almost every week through Twitter. Sylvia is a leader in the French teaching community in Canada, and has created an enormous amount of resources for language teachers to use. I asked her if she wanted to collaborate on this post, and she quickly agreed to do so. Below is a list of iPad apps that we both use in our language classrooms. The ones marked with an * are the essential, must-have ones. We have divided the list into two categories: Content consumption apps and content creation apps."

5 Great Online Tools for Creating Infographics

Professional infographic designers rely primarily on a core vector graphics software program to create their infographics designs. The main advantage is that all the icons, charts, images, illustrations, and data visualizations are treated as separate objects that can be easily moved, resized, overlapped, and rotated.

Free Technology for Teachers: 43+ Alternatives to YouTube

Free Technology for Teachers: 43+ Alternatives to YouTube | Tools | Scoop.it

"Excellent educational content can be found on YouTube. However, not every teacher can access YouTube in his or her classroom. That's why a few years ago I compiled a big list of alternatives to YouTube. Over the years some of those sites have shut-down, started charging a fee, or have switched into another market. So this evening I went through and eliminated some sites from the list and added a few new ones."

Richard Byrne has updated his list of sites that provide free videos. His top five list is below:

* Next Vista

* PBS Video

* Explore.org

* The National Film Board of Canada

* Vimeo

Each link provides a short description of what the site has to offer. You will also be able to access the fill list of sites through this post.
And if you are trying to search for a video you might want to try out the Custom Search Engine he has created through Google. This search engine is accessible at this link: http://www.freetech4teachers.com/2013/08/a-youtube-free-video-search-engine.html

Videos are a great tool to quickly engage students in learning and this list of websites as well as this search engine are great options to put in your toolbox.

Two Wonderful Visual Lists of Educational iPad Apps for Teachers and Students ~ Educational Technology and Mobile Learning | Tools | Scoop.it

"In their attempts to establish a 1:1 program for the year 6 class, St Oliver Plunket has recently held a series of workshops in order to develop their students skills before they were officially given management of their very own devices.

The workshops were particularly centered around teaching students about some tips and tricks for managing their iPad, email etiquette, successful searching and copyright and creative commons. I personally was thrilled by the efforts these people from St Oliver are putting into making their 1:1 program a success and I hope other schools would do the same."
