Hey, everybody, airline passengers don't have to turn off their electronics anymore! Great! (Or maybe it's the most awful thing ever.)
Hazel Tiffany's insight:

Hmm - progress in some ways but I share the down side of this. There are limits and while selfishly I can see how it would be valuable to be online and fully productive - I'm not sure the value of that outweighs some of the inevitable frustrations that will result

These 11 apps are the key to productivity | Tools and Techniques for Managing Complexity | Scoop.it
A few weeks ago I talked about using a system of reward tasks and "enjoyable" activities to motivate yourself to get things done. A lot of readers asked me what tools and apps I used to keep on top of my tasks and assignments. An email account combined with Evernote is sufficient for most people...

Hazel Tiffany's insight:

Interesting to see one persons perspective and to have the context of what they are using each app for - as well as the connection between action. Of course, as a diverse mix there are naturally many permutations of which Apps for which purpose - but the point of knowing the role of each is a great steer.

An individual customer journey through his apps and lifestyle choices for the new way of work..."The apps I use all correspond to a particular combination of information direction and time duration. And because there can be several such combinations—incoming email for processing later today, web bookmark for processing next week, business meeting to be planned next year—I find that particular apps handle particular combinations well."

Hazel Tiffany's insight:

This tells us how important it is that people and organisations stop trying to simplify what can't be simplified and to approach the challenge differently. Technology can certainly help but ultimately people need to re-engage with the information around them - and in a very different way - non linear and multi-dimensional. Of course to do that means knowing what your core purpose is and what information is valuable to help in dealing with ambiguity and complexity.

".....today’s employees are being challenged to accept multiple perspectives and more ambiguity in workplace assignments because complex data is far more pervasive. As a result, organizations are looking for employees who are capable of dealing with multiple scenarios at once.."

Collaboration Best Practices - 3 Reasons Interruptions are Hurting Your Team's Productivity

Collaboration Best Practices - 3 Reasons Interruptions are Hurting Your Team's Productivity | Tools and Techniques for Managing Complexity | Scoop.it
At the end of the day, when it comes to collaborating with your team, interruptions waste A LOT of your time. Here are three reasons why interruptions are killing your team's productivity.
Hazel Tiffany's insight:

Of course a platform provider will promote this perspective and offer the technology solution but its not quite that binary is it? The reality is that technology is still a long way from providing us with the balance we need - its proving impossible in most cases to opt for a single platform or to be as single minded as we might like - I do have huge sympathy with the following though!

"Switching contexts is not only disorienting, but distracting too, keeping you from performing at your true potential. To perform at your productive best, you need your best focus, something that’s unachievable when you’re constantly interrupted. No wonder people like to work from home!"

WORKING WITH CREATIVE FRAMEWORKS

WORKING WITH CREATIVE FRAMEWORKS | Tools and Techniques for Managing Complexity | Scoop.it

Just enough structure to give focus, align meaning, create intention across groups and create meaningful context at the same time as providing the flexibility and variability needed to take account of specific ‘sets of dynamics’ that influence the systems of ‘business’.

Hazel Tiffany's insight:

How could I possible disagree! A huge amount of power in a concept based on logic and common sense - oh and with a bit of critical thinking applied to the mix.

A structure and series of dimensions that creates a vital tension that keeps us focused on answering the exam question*. A tension is a positive thing - it stimulates more critical thinking by posing the ‘if this / then that’ type of question and response.
