TODAY’S LEADERSHIP MANTRA : Move!

[ For practical reasons, I decided to integrate the contributions of this topic in: "People Building skills" - 01-27-2012 ]

Move forward, always moves forward, such is life.

When we say that to stop, it’s go to the back, it’s reality. We live in a world where everything goes very fast and where we must be able to be adaptable, to be open to new things and to assimilate them.

What is it that can prevent us from moving forward, if not ourselves, perhaps fear, but as Victor Kiam has well said:

“Even if you fall on your face, you’re still moving forward.”

that should give us enough courage to know that we are moving forward in all cases.

As a leader, we know that the only way to achieve his goal is to start and move constantly. The momentum thus created will also galvanize the team who will be drawn, with you, into the spiral to success.

TODAY’S LEADERSHIP MANTRA: Point of view!

Why should I consider the point of view from the other, if I have reason (…)?

Each situation has always different points of view, what is yours?

Perhaps you are wondering what mean this question! What I mean is; when you face a situation, you see

also the perspective from the other person?

If this is not the case, you should consider doing so quickly because it’s the best way to find a favorable outcome in complicated situations.

It’s also the best process to move forward in life constructively and to attract many sympathies in his entourage. In this idea, I love the quote from George Santayana who says:

“Almost every wise saying has an opposite one, no less wise, to balance it.”

As a leader, we know that the views of other people must be heard and understood in order to make the right decisions for us and our team. Proceeding in this way, everyone can realize the importance and doing so for others as well.

TODAY’S LEADERSHIP MANTRA: Faith.

Faith and trust are the engine of life!

Without “faith nor law” as the saying goes, our lives can sometimes take unenviable directions, even if faith and false beliefs could sometimes lead us a hard life too. What I insinuated by, false beliefs, it is those that we were taught and that we have approved without practicing an objective questioning before.

Maybe we should, from time to time, take a critical look at our old beliefs!

However, it is certain that faith in our abilities and into our beliefs is essential because without it, it will be very difficult to find the life path that will lead us to success.

Believe in yourself! Have faith in your abilities! Without a humble but reasonable confidence in your own powers you cannot be successful or happy. Norman Vincent Peale

As a leader, we understand that faith is essential.

This quality is one of our strengths as we strive to share with our team so that it can move forward with the values of integrity.

TODAY’S LEADERSHIP MANTRA : Attitude.

The right attitude makes always the difference!

During part or all our life, we should have the will, desire and the envy to do the right things and having the right attitude to move forward constructively in our live.

As Confucius puts it:

“The will to win, the desire to succeed, the urge to reach your full potential… these are the keys that will unlock the door to personal excellence” Confucius

This attitude requires more than just effort. It also requires an open mind and a strong personality to overcome the difficulties that are put on our way.

As a leader, we are the kind of person with these qualifications, to achieve our goals and lead our team into the wildest dreams!

“You are never too old to set another goal or to dream a new dream” C. S. Lewis

TODAY’S LEADERSHIP MANTRA: Habits.

Our thoughts as our habits of thoughts are creating our lives!

Whether the success or failure, it is always caused by ourselves, the acts we do or not, and the energy that we deploy. Knowing this, we can take our destiny in our hands and make for the best or… the worse!

“We are what we repeatedly do. Excellence, therefore, is not an act but a habit” Aristotle

When I read me, there is something that is very strong to me; we are free and often we do not know or we do not realize it!

Indeed, we forget the freedom to think and we billeted us to financial freedom (yes, well sure, I also attaches importance) or others. We should, however, bring about this great opportunity and seize it to make the best with it.

As Confucius has well said:

”The more man meditates upon good thoughts, the better will be his world and the world at large”

As a leader, we must have the good habit of thinking and acting positively, because the good habits have an effect on our team that can be inspired and move more freely and enthusiastically towards to his goals.

SUNDAY’S LEADERSHIP MANTRA: Goal.

Everyone wants to be successful and, some people would do all to achieve it (...).

A good tool for success is certainly, the goal. As Brian Tracy say:

Goals are the fuel in the furnace of achievement” Brian Tracy

what makes me say that this topic is sufficiently interesting and important to linger a bit.

All of these goals that will lead us to success!

Introduction

Beyond the basics of goal that he should be SMART: Simple and Specific | Measurable | Achievable | Realistic | Time limited and which is known to most of us, I would like add the emotional meaning of the subject.

Indeed, the act of setting goals is often linked to an emotional process:

  • From needs who are deepest in us;
  • an ambition to be this or that;
  • Or an ego, oversized, who plays tricks on us;

and many other factors.

All these elements combined can significantly change the logic of things and lead us sometimes on unsafe paths and strewn with pitfalls.

When should we have a goal?...

TODAY’S LEADERSHIP MANTRA: Experience.

It’s a phrase I often heard in my life.

Yes, to have experience, it is priceless and we can not buy it either. Sure, you can surround yourself with people who have experience in your field (I encourage you by the way) but it will not replace the experience of life that each of us must to do. Sometimes they are happy sometimes painful, but in both cases, they are necessary, for us, to grow and to advance in life.

In this idea, I really like the approach of Eleanor Roosevelt, who said:

“You gain strength, courage and confidence by every experience in which you stop to look fear in the face“

This dovetails nicely with what I think and encourages me to continue my path while taking my responsibilities even if they are sometimes wrong!

As a leader, our experience should serve the team, who can move faster and with fewer obstacles to success. But we must remain attentive and use the experience of members of our team, what which will benefit everyone.

TODAY’S LEADERSHIP MANTRA: Empathy.

When I hear; “privacy should stay home and do not affect job performance“, I think that the world is wrong.

How can we expect that a person can simply switch from the privacy status to the professional without taking, with him, a little from each life? It will not work, in both senses, and fortunately because that’s what distinguishes us from a machine.

We are daily confronted with situations or have empathy makes the difference. It’s only by having the ability to step into the shoes of another, that we can make the right decision. As Daniel Goleman says:

“If your emotional abilities aren’t in hand, if you don’t have self-awareness, if you are not able to manage your distressing emotions, if you can’t have empathy and have effective relationships, then no matter how smart you are, you are not going to get very far”.

As a leader, we must see both sides of the situation, it is the only way to challenge us to move forward in life and share the success with our team.

The success is always present at the end of this road!

SUNDAY’S LEADERSHIP MANTRA: Be a winner.

Be a winner, a pleasant feeling!

Today I want to tell you about a subject that has always held an important place in my heart and this, since my childhood. Yes, I have always been competition oriented. In everything I did, I wanted to be first, what which, as you can imagine, has no been always the case.

It is always the case today, but, it’s no longer in the same way. If in my childhood, it was to win the football, ice hockey game or another competitions like this; today it’s rather more in philosophical activities (…) where I want to have the nose in front!

I have often wondered what made the difference between winners and the others,...

TODAY’S LEADERSHIP MANTRA: Doubt.

Doubt, what can it serves? A very good question … What do you think?

Yes, doubt can sometimes put us in difficult or complicated situation. But it can also have positive aspects, and we avoid many problems in our lives. What matters is to make the right choice at the right time.

But overall, it prevents us regularly to make progress in our projects, if the doubt is installed in our minds,...

TODAY’S LEADERSHIP MANTRA: Changes.

I often think that the world should change; there should be more peace, more love and more good sense ... yes, in short, more positivity. But, ask, is not enough, we must also contribute to this change of mind and, contrary to what many think, each of us can bring her stone to the building. To remain inactive, by hiding behind the; "alone I can do nothing" it's the easy way to avoid his responsibilities, we must, in opposite, become more proactive and participate in the change of our world.

In any situation, the best thing you can do is the right thing; the next best thing you can do is the wrong thing; the worst thing you can do is nothing. ~Theodore Roosevelt

As a leader, we must be the change we want for ourselves and our team, because if we are not able to take the lead, who will and above all, who wants to follow someone who can not change to a situation that seems difficult but is not insurmountable.

You must be the change you want to see in the world. ~Mahatma Gandhi

TODAY’S LEADERSHIP MANTRA: Overcome the problems.

On the road to success everyone has to fight with problems and other difficulties that hold him back. What makes the difference is to continue in spite of this, and to recognize that these obstacles can be positive and show us that we must revise our strategy and sometimes adapt it a bit to follow our path more easily.

"Problems are not stop signs, they are guidelines." ~Robert H. Schuller

As a leader, we know that we must work hard and follow our guideline to be a winner at the end. But we also know that it is our spirit that makes a lot of our success and, that we must be confident and ready, to become the person we want to be, that others can follow us in all confidence.

"Set your sights high, the higher the better. Expect the most wonderful things to happen, not in the future but right now. Realize that nothing is too good. Allow absolutely nothing to hamper you or hold you up in any way." ~Eileen Caddy

TODAY'S LEADERSHIP MANTRA: Retrospective 2011.

The last day of the year is a good day to look back on the past year. What were our objectives (if we had objectives ...), have we reached them? If we don't, why?

It's also a good time to reflect on what we want to do in the New Year and realize that we are what we repeatedly do, as Aristotle (and few others) has said so.

"We are what we repeatedly do. Excellence, therefore, is not an act but a habitude. Aristotle

Maybe we should also take this opportunity to repeat ourselves, if necessary, that we are the captain of our existence and that we can decide all the time if we want to be successful and have freedom in our life.

As a leader we should be in this dynamic and we should be all the time on the road to excellence as it is the only one that will lead us to success and do that other people follow us... because, excellence is attractive!

"I don't believe you have to be better than everybody else. I believe you have to be better than you ever thought you could be. Ken Venturi"

As Ken Venturi says, we must have confidence in our possibilities and surrounding us with people who are better than us; this will move us forward and the whole team around us too.

I wish you a Happy New Year and I look forward to the New Year that promises to be prosperous for all who want to be!

TODAY’S LEADERSHIP MANTRA: Tenacity.

Tenacity, a word that can take us very far!

It is an attitude that I used very often in my life and, of course I use it always. Without it, I would have given up many times when I was near the goal, with, probably, some regrets later. But we must distinguish between tenacity and stubbornness. If the first leads most often to the summits, the second would tend to lead us to the disappointment or failure.

In this spirit, what Mia Hamm said is very true:

“I’ve worked too hard and too long to let anything stand in the way of my goals. I will not let my teammates down and I will not let myself down.”

As a leader, we know the difference between tenacity and stubbornness, and we use it wisely to advance, while showing to our team that this attitude makes the difference on the road to success.

TODAY’S LEADERSHIP MANTRA: Procrastination.

Why do today what can be done tomorrow?

It’s a question that arises every day of the life of a procrastinator and can put him in some very complicated situations.

I like this quote from Christopher Parker who says:

“Procrastination is like a credit card: it’s a lot of fun until you get the bill.”

Yes, it’s so true and I could test it regularly in my recent past!

As a leader, we must master our tasks and emotions associated with it. This is the only way to have the confidence of our team, that counting on us and the respect of our commitments.

Note: I will publish an article (as soon as it is finished) about it in the next few days and add the link here.

TODAY’S LEADERSHIP MANTRA: Present.

The present, the magic moment of life!

Today and now is the first day of our new life. It’s a phrase I heard repeatedly during my life and sometimes I have to remind me to think about it.

All we can do, change and live everyday, is this moment unique where is decided to our present and our future. I like to think that we are writing our book of life, our successes and our happiness, it gives me an incredible sense of freedom and a feeling that everything is possible.

“Don’t limit yourself. Many people limit themselves to what they think they can do. You can go as far as your mind lets you. What you believe, remember, you can achieve.” Mary Kay Ash

As a leader, we know that things are happening now and that all decisions and actions we do will change our present and our future and that, this is the best way forward and achieve our goals with our team.

TODAY’S LEADERSHIP MANTRA: Belief.

Belief is a very powerful and useful tool to advance on the path to success!

To believe in you is probably the most important because without this, there will be no great things that would happen in your lives and you will not be able to show signs of confidence around you.

The belief should also extend to your friends and their ability to make good and fair, in the words of Maya Angelou;

“When someone shows you who they are, believe them the first time”

just so we can have a balanced and harmonious life.

As a leader, our belief must be strong enough so that our team can feel it, be inspired and give direction in his life.

“I believe that every person is born with talent” Maya Angelou

TODAY’S LEADERSHIP MANTRA: Trust.

Trust, may have many faces, whether for trust in ourselves or to people that surround us. Anyway, trust must start in ourselves; otherwise we are not able to have for the others.

If you meet someone who says, I do not trust anyone, you can be sure that you have just met a person who should, maybe, begin to trust himself.

“This world of ours… must avoid becoming a community of dreadful fear and hate, and be, instead, a proud confederation of mutual trust and respect” Dwight D. Eisenhower

As a leader, it is essential to have confidence in ourselves and in our abilities. Without this quality, it will be very difficult to advance and to have success with our team.

“He who does not trust enough, Will not be trusted” Lao Tzu

TODAY’S LEADERSHIP MANTRA: Perseverance.

“If you’re going through hell, keep going”

Very good advice from Winston Churchill.

Sometimes we have to go through difficult times to make one step more in our lives, be it personal or business. It is these moments, and especially what we do, who very often makes the difference between success and failure.

We always have several alternatives in life, to fight or give up.

As a leader, we must be a pacific warrior, fight and have the perseverance, even in the most difficult times, because it is the best way to develop strength of character and be a support for our entire team.

TODAY’S LEADERSHIP MANTRA: Success.

Success made the difference in life!

Sometimes I wonder what it really means success. Of course, I have a lot of interpretations on this subject, but after a little thought, I note that some of them are only superficial and not really important.

Have you also, from time to time, this feeling?

Yes, success is important in my life and I work hard to achieve my goals, but I’m not really surprised when Booker T. WASHINGTON said:

“Success is not measured by the position someone has reached in life, but the obstacles he has overcome while trying to succeed.”

That’s exactly what I mean when I say “superficial”.

As a leader, we should think about it and ask “what kind of success we have in our mind”, because no one follows a person with that kind of mentality!

TODAY’S LEADERSHIP MANTRA: Confidence.

Sometimes I hear, “you can not have everything“. What does this sentence?

We can have everything we want if we really want, yes, this seems very simple!

We must learn to want more – it is not necessarily about money (it is not excluded, of course), this may be, health, happiness, love, etc. – because that is how the most can get into life.

In using this language, you will have very quickly a lot of people that will tell you that we should not dream and that life does not work so. If you’re in this situation, you can always remember you the quote of Eileen Caddy that says;

"Set your sights high, the higher the better. Expect the most wonderful things to happen, not in the future but right now. Realize that nothing is too good. Allow absolutely nothing to hamper you or hold you up in any way".

As a leader, you know that your thought will become your present and future as well. It’s the reason for which you should have confidence in the success and in this self suggestion tool.

TODAY’S LEADERSHIP MANTRA: Fear.

Why be afraid of success? In principle this seems unlikely and yet be successful can have many implications for our lives.

The positive side as:

  • The pride of having successful
  • Recognition of his peers
  • Improved financial position
  • An interesting promotion in society
  • And so on.

You may say “how can we be afraid of a situation, which is only happiness?”...

TODAY'S LEADERSHIP MANTRA: Giving.

We live in a world where it's mostly "every man for him." Everyone is busy to advancing his life, while forgetting the world that is around him! Yes, if I'm honest, I must admit that I also regularly falls in this plan.

Why? It is precisely the question I ask myself at the moment. I know it's the wrong way to do so...!

I work hard for that to happen less and less, because I know that Zig Ziglar is right when he says: "You can get everything in life you want if you will just help enough other people get what they want".

As a leader we must think globally, it is the only way to become a leader who can change the face of the world and support a team to become in turn an example for those around him.

We can do much more than what we think, because all the power within us, just use it!

"What lies behind us and what lies before us are tiny matters compared to what lies within us." Ralph Waldo Emerson

TODAY'S LEADERSHIP MANTRA: Action.

The action is the only way to achieve its goals!

Yes, it seems obvious and yet we can lose ourselves in the preparations, planning and adaptations of the project and never start the action. This wrong way to do prevent many projects and people involved in it, to be successful.

Small deeds done are better than great deeds planned. ~Peter Marshall

Seen from another angle, this fact may have several reasons, such as procrastination and/or perfectionism (perfectionism is often a factor of procrastination), factors that divert us from our true purpose and pollute the performance and well-being.

As a leader, we must be in action as often as possible because it shows to the team the importance they should attach to action to drive them to their goals and success. Leading by example is often very efficient and it increases the trust from the team.

Vision without action is daydream. Action without vision is nightmare. ~Japanese Proverb
