15 Notes That Prove Kids Write the Darndest Things

15 Notes That Prove Kids Write the Darndest Things | Tocquigny's Digital Marketing Daily | Scoop.it

We all know kids say the darndest things, but it turns out they are even more adorable in written form.

Tocquigny's insight:

Children. Those precocious, adorable, sassy little humans. As any parent can tell you, kids are oh, so awesome and oh, so witty when you least expect it.

And especially so when you give them a pen and a piece of paper (or for the 21st-century family: a tablet). Bill Cosby may have proven that kids say the darndest things, but clearly kids have no issues writing some pretty darn funny stuff. Some of it is a bit disconcerting, but most of it just proves that kids are too smart for their own good.

It's hard to believe that only about 10 to 15 years ago (depending on your level of geekiness) the Internet was a strange new world. And now it's impossible to imagine life without it. We can't even remember how we booked hotel rooms way back then -- or kept in touch with people. Can you imagine trying to write a term paper without the Internet? You might practically live your life on the Internet, but how much do you really know about it?

7 Types Of Digital Marketers: Modern Marketing Humor [Infographic] - Bit Rebels

7 Types Of Digital Marketers: Modern Marketing Humor [Infographic] - Bit Rebels | Tocquigny's Digital Marketing Daily | Scoop.it
This humorous infographic breaks down the seven different types of digital marketers. It highlights how modern marketing is unique and creative today.
Tocquigny's insight:

Digital marketing, which is a buzz phrase in the modern marketing sphere, has so many different meanings to different marketers that it’s easy to get confused. I looked it up on Wikipedia today, just to see what someone had put in there, but was too lame to even include in this article. If you are trying to wrap your brain around the digital marketing ecosystem, you might find this article called The Ultimate Guide To Understanding Digital Marketing helpful. Today I’d like to sharewith you a humorous look at digital marketers.

Traditional marketing strategies that may have worked a decade ago are no longer relevant today. Modern marketing is more advanced, more techie and some might even say geeky. Smart modern marketers know this, and they are savvier than ever.

This infographic called The 7 Types Of Digital Marketers by Optify takes a humorous look at today’s digital marketers. If you are familiar with modern marketing, they even encourage you to mix and match these different types so you can create your own unique style of digital marketing.

When you look through this list, you’ll probably recognize some of these people. Whether you’ve seen them in your Twitter stream, in your email or on the different sites you visit throughout the day, they are everywhere. Which one are you?

I thought it was interesting to see that emails have a 15% increase in open rates if there is a symbol in the subject line, and a 4.8% increase if there is a hashtag in the subject line. I can think of so many people who fall into the “beta tester” type. I think I follow all of those people on Twitter. This is a lot of fun to read through. I hope you enjoy it!

10 Troublesome Colors to Avoid In Your Advertising

10 Troublesome Colors to Avoid In Your Advertising | Tocquigny's Digital Marketing Daily | Scoop.it

Are your Web ads looking a little off-color?
SUMMARYThere are certain color combinations that brands should make sure never appear in their Web ads, writes Tara Hornor. Bright green, yellow or purple backgrounds, for example are eye-catching for all the wrong reasons, Hornor explains. "[T]hese colors may initially grab attention but ultimately damage the brand and the credibility of the offer," she writes.

Tocquigny's insight:

Most of the readers on DesignFestival probably already know which colors to avoid in advertising, so for those of you who fall into this category, this article is simply to give you a bit of humor to brighten your day. However, if you are still new to advertising, or maybe there is a color combo or scheme you absolutely love but can’t seem to find success with, perhaps this article will help you see why certain colors are so bad for advertising. You may also want to check out some color scheme apps for helping you choose better color combinations.

I’m a big believer in color. I would go so far to say that all colors are beautiful, even the ones I don’t relate to very well. In combination with the right colors, they can be even more appealing and produce the right feelings in a target audience. In combination with the wrong colors, however, or used in the wrong way, all colors have the potential to simply be obnoxious. In fact, some advertisers seem to use bright, neon, abrasive, or even mismatching colors in a lazy attempt to capture attention. The problem is that these colors may initially grab attention but ultimately damage the brand and the credibility of the offer.

[Here] are some of the worst uses of color in advertising, both online and in print.

Glance through and make sure you aren’t using any of the following simply as a short-term strategy to attract attention.

Eye-Tracking Study: Native Ads Outperform Banner Ads [Infographic] | Tocquigny's Digital Marketing Daily | Scoop.it
Tocquigny's insight:

Consumers visually engage with native ads 52% more frequently than with traditional banner ads, according to a new study from Sharethrough and the IPG Media Lab.

The study, titled Benchmarking the Effectiveness of Native Ads, used surveys and eye-tracking technology to measure ad impact for major brands.

Among the key findings of the study, which reports the results of both a survey and an eye-tracking study:

  • Native ads registered an 18% higher lift for purchase intent, and 9% higher lift for brand affinity, than banner ads.
  • Consumers looked at in-feed native ad placements 25% more than banner ad units.
  • 32% of respondents said a native ad "is an ad I would share with a friend or family member" versus just 19% for banner ads.
  • 71% of consumers viewing native ads who had previously bought a product from an advertiser said the brand was one they "personally identify with," compared with just 50% for banner ads.

Also, consumers viewed native ad units and original editorial content nearly identically. In fact, a slightly higher percentage of people tracked looked at native ads (26%) versus editorial content (24%).

How To: Create A Successful Business Marketing Video [Infographic]

How To: Create A Successful Business Marketing Video [Infographic] | Tocquigny's Digital Marketing Daily | Scoop.it
If you are about to create a business marketing video, this infographic can help. It offers tips and things to consider so your video will be well received.
Tocquigny's insight:

If you are a regular visitor on Bit Rebels, you know we often write about brand new technology innovations when they are first introduced on crowdfunding websites like Kickstarter and indiegogo. If you’ve read about the crowdfunding trends over the past year, you know that some people have raised insane amounts of money in short periods of time. What do all the super successful campaigns have in common? There are many things actually, but one is that they have a strong marketing video.

Crowdfunding has opened the floodgates when it comes to funding innovations, and it’s the reason many products exist today. When someone sets up a Kickstarter campaign, for example, they are encouraged to create a stunning marketing video. If you do a quick search for the most successful crowdfunded campaigns, you’ll notice that they all have a strong marketing video. The question is, how do you go about creating one of those videos?

A creative, powerful business video can be useful not only for crowdfunding purposes, but for all kinds of online marketing purposes. The thing is though, many brands think in terms of traditional marketing when they create these types of videos, which is a recipe for disaster. For an example of this, just think about the last time you started to watch a video on YouTube and the intro was so long that you lost interest before you even got into it.

We’ve written about how to create a viral video before, and although there are some similarities, for the most part, creating a strong business marketing video is very different. This infographic calledQuality Above All: Assuring Your Business Video Leaves The Rest In The Dust by KZO Innovations offers some great things to consider when you’re putting together your own video.

According to the Kickstarter blog, they just launched their Video Mode feature last month. This feature highlights the marketing video more than ever before. You can also click over to Fast Company to read How To Make A Kickass Kickstarter Video for even more tips. Enjoy!

CMOs Must Fully Embrace New Technology, or Fail, And They Know It

CMOs Must Fully Embrace New Technology, or Fail, And They Know It | Tocquigny's Digital Marketing Daily | Scoop.it
A New Survey Shows Marketers See Digital as Their Greatest Weakness

CMOs feel huge pressure to satisfy customers, a survey shows, but haven't fully embraced the technology that's required.

Tocquigny's insight:

As new channels and technologies provide customers with countless options to switch to new services and brands, today's chief marketing officer is feeling tremendous pressure to find solutions that keep customers engaged and coming back.

How much pressure? A new study by Accenture Interactive, "Turbulence for the CMO," reveals that 70 percent of the CMOs of some of the world's largest enterprises think they have five years to fundamentally overhaul their companies' corporate marketing operating model to achieve competitive success.

CMOs are increasingly concerned that tight budgets and the lack of a clear digital strategy across the enterprise are hurting their company's ability to compete in the digital age. They are being squeezed by the need to support major corporate objectives -- profitable growth and operational efficiency -- while maintaining a loyal customer base and increasing sales amidst stiffer competition and higher customer expectations.

Despite huge investments in the tools, technologies and resources to better connect with customers, four in 10 of the executives surveyed -- over 400 senior marketers in 10 countries -- say that they are still not prepared to meet their marketing objectives. Considering that 65 percent of the CMOs reported that consumers' expectations for relevant, targeted experiences are having the greatest long-term impact on marketing strategy, the road to success will depend on the ability to drive digital technology beyond marketing and into the enterprise as a whole.

Based on the survey's key findings, there are four broad steps that marketers need to take if they hope to meet customer demands and grow market share.

The Ultimate Guide To Understanding Digital Marketing [Infographic]

The Ultimate Guide To Understanding Digital Marketing [Infographic] | Tocquigny's Digital Marketing Daily | Scoop.it
Do you understand exactly what digital marketing is? It's an often misunderstood & misused term. Learn about it in this infographic that explains it well.
Tocquigny's insight:

When I first heard the term “digital marketing” a few years ago, like many people, I thought it meant any type of marketing that is digital or online. After I leaned what it really meant, I started to learn how powerful it can be. Just like some people write a blog post, send a tweet with the link, and then call themselves social media marketers, many people think they are digital marketers without fully understanding what it means.

The best way I can explain it is to say that digital marketing is a whole digital ecosystem where – in the best case scenario – all the parts and pieces work together like a well-oiled machine. If a marketer only focuses on creating infographics or posting on Facebook, that is not taking advantage of what digital marketing offers when it’s done well. It’s about understanding the detailed mechanics of how people relate to the Internet, and learning how to use that to get the results you want. It’s about being creative and combining several strategies that are specifically designed to work together to achieve the same goal.

What I’m describing might sound like a strong branding strategy, and you’re right, there are many similarities between a strong online branding strategy and a strong digital marketing initiative. Coca-Cola and McDonald’s are both companies that I have seen do some effective and very creative digital marketing and branding over the past year.

To understand this more, you can click over to What Is Digital Marketing Anyway? by James Ball and check out this infographic of the same name by pixaal.com. I know when you first look at this, you may think you don’t have time to cover all these different areas. I know for us here at Bit Rebels, it always comes down to a time issue. Automate and optimize your systems as much as you can, stay personal and engage in social media since that’s where it counts, and never stop moving forward. Even if it takes you longer that you expected, if you stay dedicated and committed to what you’re doing, you will eventually be able to master every one of these areas and experience your own digital marketing success.

Why Humor Makes You More Creative

Why Humor Makes You More Creative | Tocquigny's Digital Marketing Daily | Scoop.it
You can't selfmonitor your way to innovation. A jovial office environment is hugely important and a few good laughs can change everything at work.
Tocquigny's insight:

When you're getting creative, you relax your inhibitions.

Stanford professor Tina Seelig shows us why in her book InGenius: in one study, jazz musicians were asked to improvise while having their brains monitored via fMRI.

Something harmonic happened: as the artists performed, the parts of the frontal lobe associated with judgment went quiet. This shows that while self monitoring is often useful--you don't want to say everything that passes through your mind--it can get in the way of new ideas.

"Creative people have apparently mastered the art of turning off this part of their brains to let their ideas flow more smoothly, unleashing their imagination," she writes.

During our interview with Seelig, she explains that innovative managers make their workplaces "habitats for creativity"--which entails a break from all the stuffy self-monitoring.

That's where humor comes in.
