AIG (American International Group) redesigns logo: from Serif to Sans

AIG (American International Group) redesigns logo: from Serif to Sans | timms brand design | Scoop.it
Brand New

DATE: Oct.03.2012

POSTED BY: Armin

Established in 1919, AIG (American International Group) is an international insurance organization with commercial, institutional, and individual customers in more than 130 countries providing property-casualty insurance as well as life insurance and retirement services in the United States. AIG is best (worst?) known for its economic crisis in 2008 and being bailed out by the Federal Reserve Bank and the United States Treasury (i.e., some taxpayer money in there) to the tune of $90ish billion. With AIG gradually repaying its debt, it’s time to shed the logo that associated the firm with the financial crisis in preparation for a complete “rebrand of its property casualty and life and retirement segments later this fall.” No design credit given.

Gamification - Designing for Engagement

Gamification is fundamentally rewriting the rules of engagement and design. We can leverage its techniques to create unprecedented connections with our customer

Via Martin (Marty) Smith
Martin (Marty) Smith's curator insight, June 1, 8:12 AM

Building Engagement In

There are ways to BUILD engagement into a website's design. Here are three secrets to promote engagement not included in this excellent Slideshare:

* Place Email Subscription High Up and Prominent.
* Include curated User Generated Content on every page.

* Create CTAs with CONTRAST.

Email Subscriptions
When your "Subscribe To Our Email List" Call to Action is high on the page in a Can't Miss It spot you communicate a clear "we want YOU" signal.

UGC Everywhere
When you curate User Generated Content to your site you communicate how well you listen and care for community members. The website isn't all about YOU and what you think the inclusion of UGC says.

CTAs
I see to very common mistakes in websites I'm asked to review as Director of Marketing for Atlantic BT in Raleigh (http://www.atlanticbt.com ): NO CTAs or poorly contrasted CTAs. I PREFER CTAs to be buttons and usually test red, orange or green (depending on the background color). I'm convinced there is no ONE magic CTA color but the contrast is what makes a Call To Action helpful or not, clicked on or not, converting or not.

Michael Allenberg's curator insight, June 2, 7:17 AM

Engaging and experience should always go hand-in-hand, regardless of the implementation.

Trends: Going Bigger with Typography | timms brand design | Scoop.it
I like big type and I cannot lie … OK, that’s not exactly how 1990s rap anthem by Sir Mix-a-Lot goes, but you get the idea. Big typography is trending in a major way. And that’s a good thing. The point of text in your design is to be read.

Are you guilty of any of these?

    AlGonzalezinfo's curator insight, May 18, 8:27 AM

Good Scoop David!  These ones got my attention:

    Employee Idea Killers

~The management team does not share information about the organization to allow employees to generate strategic ideas.

~No one openly requests employees share their expertise and insights.

~Requiring all employees to participate in the program.

~Not explaining the impact employees can have on the organization with their participation.~Hanging up a suggestion box – either physical or virtual – and expecting the rest to take care of itself.

New global identity and website for Red Bull Studios | by Momkai | timms brand design | Scoop.it

Red Bull Studios are a series of unique recording spaces that allow talented artists around the globe to be truly creative by providing free access to a network of state-of-the-art recording and production facilities. We were invited to create both the new official website that would act as a portal to the local studio sites and develop a distinctive new visual identity supported by clear guidelines for all design work keeping quality and clarity easily attainable.

We found inspiration from the ethos of the studios as a place to promote storytelling and excellence in music and used this to drive the creation of a tailored, content rich site featuring quality photography and adaptive design to develop a highly responsive and detailed experience on any device. We also made use of web technologies such as CSS3 animations and SVG rendering for icons and used Drupal for the CMS.

Both the visual identity and the website were designed to reflect the originality of the Red Bull Studios concept and as such, highlight the exclusive character of each city and each individual studio.
