Another Luxury Store Gets Sued For Racial Discrimination | times | Scoop.it
"Burrito face," "Goya princess" and "taco smoke” are just a few of the offensive and racist names that a former Alexander McQueen store employee is claiming her boss called her while on the job.

Burrito face?

Tré Dunbar's comment, November 17, 2013 6:19 PM
I did an article summary earlier this semester on Harassment by the Boss. The article set to differentiate the difference in harassment by a co-worker compared to harassment by a supervisor - saying the supervisor as the harasser was worse to the affected party. In the case of both the sales clerk and the security guard, harassment is harassment. Discrimination is also intolerable. Hopefully these suits will bring these high-end stores down to earth.

Is Labeling Vodka As Gluten-Free Just Another Marketing Gimmick?

Is Labeling Vodka As Gluten-Free Just Another Marketing Gimmick? | times | Scoop.it
(ChrisGoldNY)Gluten! It’s all the rage. Or at least, avoiding it has become popular even for those don’t suffer from celiac disease, making gluten-free products a potential moneymaker for companies who’ve seized on the marketing power of such...

This is interesting and my initial reaction after reading the article is that it is a marketing ploy. I would be 100% behind it if it were back by scientific evidence because I sympathize with people that have severe gluten sensitivities but based on the article it would seem that there isn't enough gluten in vodka to make someone feel ill. Based on that I think it is a marketing gimmick.

Wow this is messed up but this can happen on any social network not just dating sites. This has happened many times on Facebook where people steal others photos and use them to create fake profiles. I don't think this was a good lawsuit because this can happen in any site.

Blind Man's Guide Dog Gets Him Booted Off Flight

Blind Man's Guide Dog Gets Him Booted Off Flight | times | Scoop.it
A U.S. Airways flight attendant removed a blind man from a plane after a dispute about his guide dog. The airline then canceled the flight.

I can not say that I am surprised by the actions of the flight attendant or the airline. Of course I know that there are two sides to every story, or in this case 35+ sides. However, I am finding more and more that employees of airlines are in the career for the perks. Many of them care nothing about customer service. On a recent flight, I saw a flight attendant snap at a passenger to get her attention during snack service rather than addressing her. Absolutely sad.
Tania Hernandez's curator insight, November 18, 2013 1:46 AM

Rizzi has all the right to get upset and should have never been thrown off the plane along with his guide dog because he is a blind man and deserves to have his guide dog there with him. If the dog is properly trained and has been on a plane with him before then I don't see how the dog could've been moving around bothering other passengers like the flight attendant said. I think the flight attendant was being very rude and not making the proper accomodations for this disabled man. If some of the other passengers were shocked by the way this flight attendant treated this poor blind man then she definitely must've been rude and this is not the way a flight attendant should treat her passengers especially not someone who is blind.

Michelle Walker's comment, November 25, 2013 12:30 AM
What gets me about this article is that if the dog was moving around a little( which it was told that it was not) how could the flight attendant not understand that the man needs his dog. At the same time I am so disappointed at the U.S airway flight attendant, I am pleased that others who purchased their plane ticket would escort themselves to join Rizzi. It also shows who was telling the truth in the case as all those passengers were there with Rizzi and not sitting on the flight. No matter where we go we will come across people like this flight attendant and it is just sad the outcome of this one.

Bloomberg Wants Restaurants to Compost

Bloomberg Wants Restaurants to Compost | times | Scoop.it
Mayor Michael R. Bloomberg said he was proposing a bill that would require restaurants that generate more than a ton of food waste a week to separate their food waste from the rest of their garbage.

I think it is very important that they take control of the excess food waste. It is crazy how much food they go through in a week let alone an entire year. One of my favorite parts of the article is where they stated that the establishments like Le Bernadin and Mario Batali’s Babbo said they were going to start donating unsellable but edible food, such as misshaped pies, to food banks rather than throwing them away. This is helping with more than one economic problem in America. With 250,000 tons of waste a year imagine what America will be capable changing that into energy and fertilizer. Making moves- one step at a time!
