Sigma Designs Introduces FRCX for 2nd Generation Ultra HD TVs by Combining as Many as Five Chips Into a Single Device | tietotekniikkaajahyvinvointia | Scoop.it

Sigma Designs, a leading provider of System-on-Chip (SoC) solutions for home entertainment, connectivity and, converging multimedia delivery, today announced the FRCX, a single chip Ultra HD frame rate conversion chip, at CES 2014.

Designed for large-size LCD and OLED panels beyond 50 inches where high quality frame rate conversion, judder removal and Ultra HD upscaling are critical features, the FRCX combines the functionality of as many as five devices into a single chip.

This reduces overall BOM costs and improves performance for OEMs that need to deliver cutting-edge Ultra HD TVs at competitive price points.

Top Five TV Trends in 2014

Top Five TV Trends in 2014 | tietotekniikkaajahyvinvointia | Scoop.it

Based on some early announcements and briefings we had with several companies in advance of the 2014 International CES, it's clear that this will be an exciting year for those in the market for a new set.

Probably the most pervasive change will be the growing importance of Ultra HD TVs, which have higher-resolution screens (3840x2160), in the lineups of almost all the major brands.

So without further ado, here are our top five TV trends for 2014:

UHD TVs will be cheaper and more plentiful

UHD 4K content will slowly arrive

TVs will keep getting bigger

OLED TVs will remain something of a curiosity in 2014

We'll see more TVs with curved screens

The Worst Lies You've Been Told About the Singularity | tietotekniikkaajahyvinvointia | Scoop.it

You've probably heard of a concept known as the Technological Singularity — a nebulous event that's supposed to happen in the not-too-distant future. Much of the uncertainty surrounding this possibility, however, has led to wild speculation, confusion, and outright denial. Here are the worst myths you've been told about the Singularity.

All ten are memorable spots. There might have been some that were excluded that could have made a list, but these 10 are GREAT. It seems that humor and the emotions of home and competition- pushing oneself to new heights- were the major themes this year.

And everyone's favorite camel made the list.

Not everyone would agree with this sentiment unless there was an absolute guarantee that your privacy could be protected. Medical information can be of a very sensitive nature and hence the appropriate security and privacy measures need to be in place.

Never mind that nobody knows exactly what to call it (Ultra HD 4K, 4K Ultra HD, UHD, just Ultra HD, or just 4K), the industry has settled on the next big thing for television and, unlike the tepid response 3D technology received in years prior, Ultra HD is in a strong position to take over in the years to come.

It won’t just be Ultra HD televisions that will be making headlines this year, either.

4K content and the means by which it will be delivered to viewers is also coming.

Artificial intelligence is the holy grail of technological achievment, creating an entity that can learn from its own mistakes and can (independently of programmer intervention) develop new routines and programs.  The New York Times claims that the first ever "learning" computer chip is to be released in 2014, an innovation that has profound consequences for the tech market.  When these devices become cheaper, this should allow for robotics and device manufacture that incorporates more detailed sensory input and can parse real objects, like faces, from background noise.

"Combing through the data, Willoughby and the Glassdoor team found a handful of themes emerged among the most beloved companies. They were:

Mission: a sense of purpose in coming into workCollegiality: working with awesome peopleChallenging work: being stimulated by the work to be done Meaningful advancement: the promise of growth Confidence in senior leaders: a sense of trust--and transparency--with management Perks: good pay, free food, a beer cart or two."
