Lovely (Ice Hockey) quote at the end of this article that fits neatly with the problems of market analysis touched on in class today (26/2/14). Is Microsoft's plans for a single device to 'dominate' the living room based on an analysis of the market that has become out of date? 

Price reductions so early in the life cycle of a high product is certainly unusual and despite their claims that Xbox One is helping them to catch up with Sony (PS4), you have to wonder if they put too much emphasis on the value of the Kinect hardware to their new console.

Bringing PS1/PS2 mentioned in class today (26/2/14) right up to date. This 'games console war' between two major brands is long running and will continue into the foreseeable future. Article touches on Price & Product as elements of the marketing mix used by Microsoft and Sony. Very interesting to see a price cut on Xbox one so early into its life cycle.

"The Hobbit:The Desolation of Smaug" opens nationwide across the UK on 13th December 2013. The second in a trilogy of films adapting the enduringly popular masterpiece "The Hobbit", by J.R.R. Tolkien, "The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug" continues the adventures of the title character Bilbo Baggins (Martin Freeman) as he journeys with the Wizard Gandalf (Ian McKellen) and thirteen Dwarves, led by Thorin Oakenshield (Richard Armitage) on an epic quest to reclaim the lost Dwarf Kingdom of Erebor.

"The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug" is a production of New Line Cinema and MGM, with New Line managing production. Warner Bros Pictures is handling worldwide theatrical distribution, with select international territories as well as all international television distribution being handled by MGM.
