I always go with a purpose just like any self-directed New Yorker to the PDN Photo Expo at Javits Center. This year I added Shoot NYC at The Terminal Building off 11th Avenue so my plan became even more specific than in previous years. My targeted areas of interests in order of magnitude:
Finding affordable equipment appropriate to my small business seminar, Using What You Have and (Still) Produce Great Video to Increase Sales for the Web & Beyond. Looking for any new or interesting gear or anything that might suggest trends, e.g. the use of constant lighting, in the photo industry.

We tested 11 online photo print labs in terms of print quality, shipping, ordering, etc. After all the tests were performed, the best lab was Pro DPI!

I've not used online labs before I moved out of the Big Apple. I've done some test comps on a couple mentioned in this article and so far Miller's was closest to PC screen view. I don't recall trying Nation's but I can't recommend them for B&W as they print on color paper. Delete the scoop?

1) If you're using a flat bed scanner under $500, don't expect too much. 2) Always do TIFF, not JPEG--you'll every bit of detail 3) There are used flatbed scanners floating about, think about buying one.

he metering systems of today’s digital cameras are light years beyond cameras of just 10 to 15 years ago. What this means is that in many situations, the camera’s meter, left to its own devices, is going to do an excellent job at getting a good exposure. While evaluative (or matrix) metering and center-weighted average metering take into account the entire scene, albeit in different ways, spot metering mode provides a tool for metering only the part of the scene you as the photographer consider most important.
