The gender discrimination trial pitting Ellen Pao against her former venture capital employer is oddly focused on these two words.
Ryan Hines's insight:

Is failure to become a 'thought leader' just a flimsy excuse for sexism in hiring/firing practices? Judge and jury grapple with questions like what IS thought leadership, can it be learned, and how long does it take to become a thought leader.

How To Create A Thought Leadership Strategy That Supports True Innovation

How To Create A Thought Leadership Strategy That Supports True Innovation | Cogitation Supremacy | Scoop.it

"Thought leadership happens when brands move from talking about their product (1.0) to transitioning into solving customer problems (2.0) and then become trusted advisors (3.0). People trust thought leaders and turn to them for advice. When you’ve made this shift, you’ve moved your company from a commoditized buy to a consultative relationship. Price becomes less important."

I especially like the above excerpt from Carla Johnson.

Want To Be A Thought Leader? Master Public Speaking

Want To Be A Thought Leader? Master Public Speaking | Cogitation Supremacy | Scoop.it
Thought leadership is about developing, packaging and communicating concepts, ideas, insights and solutions that will enhance the success of a select audience.
Ryan Hines's insight:

That's all it takes: just master public speaking. While it's correct to say that public speaking is chalk full of learnable skills, it's not easy. And mastering public speaking still isn't enough to attain thought leadership.

Furthermore, be wary of the legalistic 'hedging' terms hidden throughout, e.g. "one of the most potentially effectual distribution strategies for thought leadership content is public speaking." Translation: "one of the most" is not necessarily 'the most'; "potentially effectual" means 'maybe it works, maybe it doesn't'--to rephrase the whole thing "public speaking might work for you, but there are no guarantees."
