iEARN announces the launch of a new iEARN Collaboration Centre, a custom-built platform designed to support iEARN’s global project-based learning network of 50,000 member teachers and 2 million student participants in over 130 countries worldwide. The site is a safe and secure, global, multilingual, educational environment, and provides for the kind of distributed management required for scalability and worldwide local adaptability.
Last week, Lead Educators from 13 countries around the globe gathered at Adobe Headquarters in San Jose, CA for a week of hands-on professional development training. The 27 Educators were split up into groups to explore topics that pose challenges for educators working with youth and media, such as promoting youth leadership and ownership, brainstorming and idea generation, and amplifying youth voice. Group members worked together for 4 days to create a video project addressing their given topic, sharing stories, experiences, and best practices with each other throughout the process. It was an intense week of collaboration workshops with excitement around every corner!
My Global Ed class is composed of fifth and sixth grade girls who meet at lunch/recess to try to make a difference in the world. If your daughters have come home and asked for plastic bags, empty water bottles, yet another batch of brownies for a bake sale, a shovel for ditch digging¾be assured that they are in the midst of one of their collaborative projects, two of which have become part of the Middle School curriculum.
The fifth and sixth grade girls in my school, Springside Chestnut Hill Academy, were involved in four of iEARN's projects:

As part of Connected Educators Month, last Friday I sat in on “The Sun Never Sets”, a panel discussion about global connected education trends and how connected educators around the world can help each other improve practice, with panelists Ed Gragert, Lucy Gray, Vicki Davis, Julie Lindsay, and Anne Mirtschin, Steve Hargadon was moderating.
Lucy Gray mentioned Professional Generosity, a phrase she describes in her TedxTalk, and I can’t think of better examples than the people on this panel.

“The training was an exciting opportunity to meet, interact and learn from several media artists, educators and enthusiasts from around the globe. I personally feel refreshed and more energetic to get back to Uganda and share all the skills and knowledge I got at the training with the rest of the folks in Uganda and within the iEARN Network, ” said Allan Kakinda, one of the Lead Educators at the training.
Whenever a major event happens in the iEARN community, like today’s launch of the new Collaboration Centre, the words of Argentine teacher Daniel Reyes come to mind: No one person knows so much that he can’t learn from others, and no one person knows so little that he can’t teach others.
Globally, technology has been regarded as an instrument of, indeed a shortcut to, school reform. This monograph examines educational technology initiatives in Lebanon, Jordan, the United Kingdom, and the United States over the past decade and draws lessons that can help nations moving forward with their own national educational technology initiatives. It demonstrates that technology has not failed educational systems. Rather, these systems have made successful implementation of innovations like technology impossible by failing to develop the terrain, the conditions, the initiatives, the supports—the reforms—necessary to ensure that innovations take root and flourish.
