8 Ways to Use Healthcare Blogs to Earn Links

8 Ways to Use Healthcare Blogs to Earn Links | This-day | Scoop.it

When it comes to online marketing, blogs are a great way to reach out to your community with news and information to get people talking about and interacting with your business. To get the most out of your blog, it should be frequently updated and well maintained. If you do it right, you will be able to gain a following, increase traffic to your website and rank higher in Google. Below, I have outlined a few strategies for successful medical blogging that engage your audience and encourage natural links back to your site, ultimately improving your search rankings in Google.

CREATE A BLOG

If you don’t already have a company blog, create one. Determine who your audience is and what you want your readers to get from your content. Your general posts can include recent news, interesting stories, new discoveries, etc. Update it regularly and make sure your posts are easily shareable so you get more traffic and links. Promote the content on social media to give it more attention and a wider reach.

GUEST BLOG

Guest blogging is a process in which a blogger writes a post that is published on another blog that is not their own. What’s great about this practice is that it benefits both the host blog and the guest blogger. The host blog gets fresh content from a variety of expert viewpoints, without spending as much time creating it. The guest blogger gets recognition in a new audience as well as links back to their own blog or website. These links can be included within the blog content as references or supplements to what you’re writing about. To stay within best practices, these links should be highly relevant to your content and beneficial to the reader. Don’t overdo it! 1 to 3 links is enough. More than that and it will begin to look spammy.

When writing your guest post, understand the audience of the website you want to post on and make sure the content is relevant and beneficial to those readers. It helps to develop a relationship with the writers/editors of the blog before submitting a request as well. Follow them on social networks, share their content, comment on their posts, etc.  In that way, you’re helping them out first and developing more of a relationship instead of simply requesting they post your work without knowing who you are.

REVERSE GUEST BLOGGING

Conversely, another strategy is to allow others to guest blog on your site. Typically, when you post others’ work, they are more likely to share that post and promote it because they’re proud of it. They might link to the post from their own blog, website or various social media outlets. This gives you more backlinks and boosts traffic for your site. Be selective with who you allow to publish to keep the content of utmost quality.

Now that we’ve covered general blogging tactics, let’s talk more specifically about different kinds of blog posts that can generate activity and links for your site.

COMPLETE GUIDES

Create a complete guide for specific areas of your industry. By developing a resource with information that people can reference on a regular basis, you can become the go-to source and obtain links.

STORIES

Stories that are heartwarming, shocking or funny often get a lot of shares. If you have a particularly interesting story to share, post it on your blog or website and promote it on social media. Use enticing titles to attract more interest. People love a good story and if it connects with them, they’re more likely to talk about it and share it with people they know.

LISTS

People love lists! Write posts with titles like “10 Ways to Improve Your Heart Health” or “5 Foods You Should Never Eat Again.” Top 10 lists and titles with numbers in them typically get higher click-through rates, so whenever possible it’s always good to think about structuring your post with that in mind.

DEBUNKING MYTHS

There are countless myths and old wives tales in the healthcare industry that the general public believes. Use this to your advantage and set the record straight. Write posts that debunk these myths and explain the truth. The more shocking or surprising the facts are, the more likely it is to be shared and linked to. Use a catchy title to promote interest. This post about exercising myths is a great example of taking common myths and explaining the truth clearly and effectively (and they also use my list recommendation from above!).

SOCIAL MEDIA PROFILE LINKS

This last one is a quick win for easy links. Make sure any Facebook, Twitter or Google+ profile associated with your company or your employees contains the company’s website within the profile. Link authority isn’t usually passed through social media links (they are no-follow) but it’s still a great way to get more traffic to your site and increase brand awareness.

These are just a few of the many ways healthcare bloggers can increase traffic and earn backlinks with strategic blog posts. What are some of the blog strategies that have worked for you?

Survey: Doctors prefer tablets for journal articles, smartphones for most other tasks

Survey: Doctors prefer tablets for journal articles, smartphones for most other tasks | This-day | Scoop.it

When it comes to reading articles in medical journals, 28 percent of physicians use tablets and 21 percent use smartphones according to arecently published study by ad agency WPP’s Kantar Media. That’s still much lower than the 74 percent that use a desktop or laptop computer or the 55 percent still reading paper journals.

Kantar Media surveyed 3,000 doctors across 22 specialties over two different six month periods for the study. The latest data was collected via questionnaires sent out by mail between May 2013 and August 2013 and an online survey conducted in July and August 2013.

Around 51 percent of physicians told Kantar they use a tablet device for professional purposes. Forty-nine percent said they used a tablet for personal and professional purposes, 19 percent for personal use only, and just 2 percent for professional use only. Adoption was much higher for smartphones — Kantar found that 78 percent used them for professional and personal tasks, 10 percent used them for proffesional tasks only, and less than 1 percent used them for personal tasks only.

Ingredients

5 organic eggs

1 cup coconut milk, canned, full fat

2 Tablespoons coconut oil, melted

⅓ cup coconut sugar/palm sugar

2 Tablespoons pure maple syrup

1/4 teaspoon sea salt

1/2 cup coconut flour

1/2 cup arrowroot starch

2 teaspoons lemon juice and zest

1 Tablespoon baking powder

1 cup blueberries, organic, fresh or frozen

InstructionsIn a food processor combine all of the ingredients except the berries. Blend until smooth. Fold the berries into the batter.

Grease a large skillet or pancake griddle with coconut oil and place over medium heat. Place 1/4 cup scoops of batter onto the skillet, cover with a glass lid, and cook until bubbles form. Remove the lid, flip each pancake and then replace the lid and cook for another minute, until golden on both sides. Cooking with the lid on really helps your pancakes reach amazingly fluffy heights!

*Kathy:  I've been doubling the recipe and freezing the leftovers for a quick breakfast for my son.

Motor Drive & Control Stepper Motors

Motor Drive & Control Stepper Motors | This-day | Scoop.it

Stepper motors are originally conceived of as a low-cost alternative to servo motors in expensive position control applications, and were immediately embraced by the emerging computer industry in peripheral applications. The main advantage of stepper motors is that they can provide open-loop position control for a fraction of the cost of a servo system requiring feedback.  Stepper motors produce torque just like any other magnetic "analog" motor. The damping factor for most steppers is very low, resulting in underdamped operation and susceptibility to resonant problems at certain step frequencies.

Entropy | Free Full-Text | Entropy and the Predictability of Online Life

Entropy | Free Full-Text | Entropy and the Predictability of Online Life | This-day | Scoop.it
Abstract: Using mobile phone records and information theory measures, our daily lives have been recently shown to follow strict statistical regularities, and our movement patterns are, to a large extent, predictable. Here, we apply entropy and predictability measures to two datasets of the behavioral actions and the mobility of a large number of players in the virtual universe of a massive multiplayer online game. We find that movements in virtual human lives follow the same high levels of predictability as offline mobility, where future movements can, to some extent, be predicted well if the temporal correlations of visited places are accounted for. Time series of behavioral actions show similar high levels of predictability, even when temporal correlations are neglected. Entropy conditional on specific behavioral actions reveals that in terms of predictability, negative behavior has a wider variety than positive actions. The actions that contain the information to best predict an individual’s subsequent action are negative, such as attacks or enemy markings, while the positive actions of friendship marking, trade and communication contain the least amount of predictive information. These observations show that predicting behavioral actions requires less information than predicting the mobility patterns of humans for which the additional knowledge of past visited locations is crucial and that the type and sign of a social relation has an essential impact on the ability to determine future behavior.

The Plastic Bank is setting up plastic repurposing centers around the world, where there’s an abundance of both waste plastic and poverty. They are empowering people to harvest plastics as a currency they can exchange for tools, household items, parts & 3D printing. The mission is to remove plastic waste from the land, oceans and waterways while helping people ascend from poverty and transition into entrepreneurship. The exchange process for recycled “Social Plastic” improves the life of a disadvantaged person while cleaning the planet. Their goal is to lead the movement towards worldwide demand for the use of Social Plastic in everyday products. The higher the worldwide demand becomes, the higher the reward will be for harvesting Social Plastic. You can Join the social plastic movement to start changing the world through your purchasing power.

League of Legends reaches 27m daily players

League of Legends reaches 27m daily players | This-day | Scoop.it

Riot Games' League of Legends now brings in around 27 million players every single day.

The new figures were released to the Wall Street Journal yesterday, and they represent a significant improvement over the 12 million daily players Riot counted in October 2012. The game's concurrent players have also risen sharply, from 5 million in March last year to peaks of more than 7.5 million this month.

And if last week's report from SuperData was accurate, Riot's revenue is following a similar trajectory, hitting $624 million in 2013 - the only online game to earn more last year was the Tencent-published shooter CrossFire, which brought in $957 million.

Ingredients

1/4; palm shortening or coconut oil

⅔-1 cup palm sugar (I use part liquid stevia)

1/2 cup applesauce or pumpkin puree

1/2 cup  yogurt

1 tablespoon vanilla extract

⅓ cup toasted quinoa flour

⅓ cup teff flour

⅓ cup cocoa powder, sifted

2 teaspoons baking powder

1 teaspoon baking soda

1 teaspoon sea salt

1/2; teaspoon guar gum

Optional add-ins: chocolate chips, cranberries, cherries, toasted nuts,

Instructions

Preheat the oven to 350 degrees.Grease an 8 x 8 pan, or line with parchment.

In a mixer, beat he palm shortening and sugar until creamy.Continue with the applesauce, yogurt, and vanilla,

With the mixer on, sprinkle in the baking powder, baking soda, sea salt, and guar gum.

Continue with the flours. If you would like to add chocolate chips, now would be the time!

Taste to make sure it is sweet enough for you and yours.

Bake for about 30 minutes until a knife inserted in the middle comes out clean.

The cake by itself is not overly sweet.  It is totally acceptable to add additional sugar to suit your needs….taste the batter and decide!  But with a sweet frosting, it seems a good balance.

I use toasted quinoa flour in this recipe.  Quinoa flour by itself is bitter and grassy, and personally I can not stand it!  But it is transformed when you toast it, and is so nutritious, it is a great flour to be working with.  Simply pour up to 1 1/2 pounds flour into a cookie sheet and bake in a 300 degree oven for about 30 minutes.  It will smell grassy for a bit then start to smell sweet and lovely as it is transformed.  Store this prepared flour in an airtight container.

The next season of women's shoes made in Italy of the House, it will be characterized by bright colors and bright white, gold and silver details ready to sparkle under the sky of summer.

Materials become minimal (as in the sandals collection), leathers give way to straps and decorative perforations, the fresh paint finish is declined in tiffany shades of green or emerald green.

White and cream form a coalition to bring the true essence of summer, but in this S/S 2014 fashion preview we can’t fail to mention the footwear and accessories lines by the more naïve colors or lines and tones more passionate. [...]
