“In each time and place, there are particular problems and crisis through which God calls the church to act. The church, guided by the Spirit, humbled by its own complicity and instructed by all attainable knowledge, seeks to discern the will of God and learn how to obey in these concrete situations…”

Welcome! There are over two years worth of searchable materials on THINKING PRESBYTERIAN. TP collects news from and about the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.) - and issues it is concerned about. The odd shaped funnel like symbol in the upper right hand of the page opens a search function which will take you pretty quickly to articles collected here about your subject. Drop me a note if you have questions.

CARMEN FOWLER LABERGE: My mixed birth metaphor coming out of the ECO/Fellowship Dallas Gathering - The Layman Online

CARMEN FOWLER LABERGE: My mixed birth metaphor coming out of the ECO/Fellowship Dallas Gathering - The Layman Online | THINKING PRESBYTERIAN | Scoop.it

That admixture made for awkward moments, like when Paul Detterman, who is staying in the PCUSA and shepherding the Fellowship Community, introduced the head of the Presbyterian Church (USA)’s Mission Agency, Linda Valentine. Several of her staff members were also present, hosted booths in the exhibit area, lead workshops throughout the gathering and were credited with publishing the resource on The Apostles’ Creed that was distributed – at the expense of the PCUSA’s Congregational Ministries Division – to all Gathering attendees.

Jim Collie's insight:

Curator:  Well - this is a head scratcher through and through - at a meeting of the group urging congregations to depart the PCUSA the head of the PCUSA mission agency is giving out free books on the Apostle's Creed that were paid for by the PCUSA.  AND Brian Ellison, a partner in a same gender marriage, who heads the advocacy group that successfully guided gay ordination and marriage equality actions through the General Assembly, was introduced and welcomed from the stage.  I'm wondering what you think of all of this?  The way to leave a comment is to move your cursor just inside the lower edge of the box, on the left hand side.  The word "reaction" will show up.  Clicking on the word "reaction" will open a comment box.  Be respectful and loving.
