It is a myth that Electric cars are not environmentally friendly because their manufacturing is dirtier than fossil fuel cars.


Above is a comparison between a Mercedes powered with electricity and fossil fuel. If you use solar or hydro power the enviromental impact is 1/3.

We all know that China is the biggest CO2 polluter. But they are doing something about it. China invests 45% more into renewable energy than the whole of EU. It invests 133% more than the US. And 12 x more than its peer India.

India's massive bet on solar power is paying off far earlier than anticipated as the price of supplying electricity from solar plummets to levels near that of coal.
Jan E. Boethius's insight:
Solar prices are now within 15% of coal, according to KPMG. If current trends hold, the consultancy predicts electricity from solar will actually be 10% cheaper than domestic coal by 2020.And that could turn out to be a conservative forecast. At a recent government auction, the winning bidder offered to sell electricity generated by a project in sunny Rajasthan for 4.34 rupees (6 cents) per kilowatt hour, roughly the same price as some recent coal projects.
