About LiterateNation from their website--Lou

Excerpt on Mission:

"Literate Nation is a non-profit organization that exemplifies a call to action movement begun by a group of citizens, educators, and scientists in 2012. The organization, is committed to the achievement of three goals:

Lou Salza's curator insight, April 13, 1:42 AM

Excerpt:

"...Each DD state group agrees to a central mission, which sounds something like this. (This one’s from my home state!)

Decoding Dyslexia – Texas is a grassroots movement driven by Texas families concerned with the limited access to educational interventions for dyslexia and other language-based learning disabilities. Our mission is to raise dyslexia awareness, empower families to support their children, and inform policy-makers on best practices to identify, remediate and support students with dyslexia in Texas schools.

Educating and empowering parents, providing resources and support and rallying parents to approach state lawmakers about much-needed changes when it comes to dyslexia identification and remediation are what the DD movement is all about..."

Tina Marie DeLong's insight:

The time is ripe for families across the country to speak up about dyslexia. There is currently a bi-partisan Congressional Dyslexia Caucus in place in Washington DC. Congress will be looking to reauthorize the Elementary and Secondary Education Act (ESEA) and the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA) in the near future and states are adapting to the new Common Core Content Standards. We need to ensure that discussions on improving literacy programs for dyslexics are included on all fronts. As parents we need to insist that this gap between research and practice is addressed!

Rowe Young- Kaple's curator insight, April 3, 6:04 PM

Identify RPS (reversed positioning sensation) in kindergarten or first grade.  Then, by simply changing the handwriting position to the position  that feels the shapes of letters from their top side, and helping these youngsters learn to write the alphabet in 40 seconds, you will find, will correct all sorts of early educatioin difficulties.  These young remediated students will consequently need no more help.
