Can India close the wealth gap? | The White Tiger: India | Scoop.it
60 years after independence and not all Indians are feeling the benefits of an economic boom, Mumbai business correspondent Karishma Vaswani says.
Avinash The Sarguru's insight:

One of indias biggest problem is the giant gap between the rich and the poor, this article gives examples of it. The first person they show is a man who has made it and is able to buy a black porsche and even plans to buy a yacht. Within the same though is the bigest, dirtest slum in all of Asia. They talk to a man who makes pottery for a living to support his 6 childrens already modest life style. They talk about tearing down his house and destroying his way of life, his way of living. It shows another village where a company has opened to get people jobs within the company while staying in their village.

India's Deadliest Enemy

Avinash The Sarguru's insight:

The article talks about the corruption within the Indian government. The country's corruption spreads wide from small officers taking bribes to forget about tickets all the way to forging official documents. The Indian system is filled with corruption and the Indian government finally instated laws to combat the corruption that plagues the city. Many of the people in India even express their discouragement of the corruption by supporting those who oppose it. the people call for change to stop the country to continue to the insane amount of corruption and the power that money holds in the country. Corruption also affects the people in the country by how only the rich are the ones who can bribe the officials. This generally leads to discrimination because the poor are the only ones who get an sense of law or authority put on them.

India: Caste Conflict

Avinash The Sarguru's insight:

In India the caste system is a form of class based ranking among the people. The system states that everybody is born with a specific purpose and job to perform in their life and that only while also ranking some people above others often leading to discrimination. The lowest of the caste system, the untouchables, facing the worst of the discrimination. India has tried to eliminate the caste system but has since failed. While the caste system is not nearly as prevalent as before it is still an existent part of the society. honor killings against lower classes still are an issue within the country and the supreme court of the nation has had to draw special attention to the issue making the crime a highlight to get rid of going so far to punish those that take it easy on such offenses.
