Apple's rumored Beats buyout baffles pundits & analysts alike

Apple's rumored Beats buyout baffles pundits & analysts alike | The Vision Page | Scoop.it
Since numerous publications have corroborated claims that Apple is apparently in talks to acquire headphone maker Beats Electronics for $3.2 billion, the rumored purchase has been largely met with scorn, confusion and even disbelief from tech industry watchers.
Joao Martins's insight:

The more I read about this "acquisition" the more sick in my stomach I'm feeling. Since it all started in the Wall Street press - well known for bashing Apple every time they need to buy or sell shares - it seems clear this is one of those bogus stories. That is, until I remembered that the same guy responsible for the iTunes 11 total disaster still works for Apple and might well be involved... Whatever comes out of this it's too bad to be true.

Joao Martins's insight:

The cruel reality. Apple iPad business continues to grow, while the rest of the tablet market, even considering all the Android gargabe, Windows wannabe tablets and even kids toys is shrinking. Still, tablets are selling more than PC's...

Samsung's 'Beat Apple' memo: 'Threat from Apple extremely real and urgent' | The Vision Page | Scoop.it
While the tech media has devoted lots of attention to Apple's concerned reaction to Samsung's 2012 marketing blitz, evidence likely to be presented during the Apple vs Samsung trial shows that it was Samsung that targeted its attention on "beating Apple" as its "#1 priority" for 2012.

Apple's failure to pay for favorable media coverage flies in the face of Samsung's payola

Apple's failure to pay for favorable media coverage flies in the face of Samsung's payola | The Vision Page | Scoop.it
Slanted media reports targeting Apple appear to be directly connected to the company's failure to pay for more favorable coverage in the model of Samsung. It doesn't appear to be affecting Apple's sales or profits, however.
Joao Martins's insight:

A must read editorial. "Samsung spends more as Apple earns more.

At the same time, while all those promotional expenses are allowing Samsung to take the lion's share of Android sales, they don't seem to actually be helping the company make any progress in its battle with Apple over the lucrative high end of the smartphone market, given that Apple continues to sell 50 percent more high end smartphones (and far more tablets) than Samsung does, despite a significantly fewer carrier partners than Samsung."

Automotive Infotainment | ABI Research

Joao Martins's insight:

Global Shipments of Streaming Music Enabled Automotive Infotainment Systems to Exceed 66 Million by the End of 2019

In recent years, streaming music services have shown that there is a market for personalized radio and on-demand subscription based services, listening via PCs and laptops and particularly via smartphones. Now these companies are turning their attention to the car and are seeking ways to offer their services to motorists, moving into territory the traditional radio stations have held sacred for decades.

“FM broadcasting still dominates in-car listening today, but it is likely that this will gradually diminish in favor of streamed radio and music services as an increasing number of cars become connected,” comments Gareth Owen, principal analyst at ABI Research. This trend is already happening in some markets such as the United States. “It is now clear that digital radio via DAB/DAB+ and HD Radio is unlikely to ever become as widespread as FM on a global or even regional basis, and so car OEMs will need to include FM receivers in their infotainment products for many years to come.”

These findings are part of ABI Research’s Automotive Infotainment Research Service which provides analysis of key developments and trends in the marketplace and provides quantitative information via its extensive car infotainment database.
