Amazon launching physical bookstores in Chicago, San Diego, Portland, report says

Why it matters:
- Amazon's quiet march toward direct competition with brick and mortar bookstores will expand with the launch of an additional store in Chicago and expanding to other cities, following last year’s Seattle location.
- The Seattle shop features book displays that focus on presenting books that have been highly rated on Amazon's online bookstore, but the store also acts as a marketing opportunity for Amazon's other ventures, such as the Kindle, Fire TV and Amazon Echo.
- Ironically, the rise of Amazon's print outlets comes as the last remaining national bookseller, Barnes & Noble, continues to struggle in the rapidly changing book publishing landscape.

Implications for Verizon:
Even though Internet-based brands may contribute to the decline of the physical retail space, they also recognize its relevance and importance. Verizon can utilize its data to understand where consumer's shopping habits lie and adjust its retail offerings according to leverage certain products and offerings for marketing or sales opportunities.

Why Multilingual People Have Healthier, More Engaged Brains

Why Multilingual People Have Healthier, More Engaged Brains | The Twinkie Awards | Scoop.it

Prior to the 1960s, scientists thought children who spoke more than one language had a handicap for learning because they had to spend too much time distinguishing between languages. With more modern brain imaging technology, researchers can now see how multilingualism actually strengthens the brain. People who speak more than one language have a higher density of gray matter that contains most of the brains neurons and synapses.

Beyond Google: How to Perform SEO for Other Search Engines

Beyond Google: How to Perform SEO for Other Search Engines | The Twinkie Awards | Scoop.it
Unlike getting viral on social media, search engines can’t be pleased overnight.

But, once you’ve built authority in their eyes, then search traffic doesn’t fade away like other sources.

Search traffic is stable, scalable and free.

Most users do most of their web surfing through Google. The explosion in popularity of Google Chrome as a web browser means that users won’t see other search engines during their content discovery.

Google probably didn’t lose its mojo. Neither will it lose its monopolistic market share, any time soon.

But, it’s worth considering other search engines, like Bing and Yahoo for your enterprise. This is especially true, given that they get a higher conversion rate.

(From the article): Why you should care about other search engines: A look at the current search market Unlike getting viral on social media, search engines can’t be pleased overnight. In the 2016 U.S. Desktop Search Engine Rankings, by ComScore, Google sites had a 63.8% of the search share. This means that other search engines also have a decent user base.
