Looks like people are finally paying attention to Quora! I have used the platform for a while, and even though I don't often link to my posts, as Cara Tarbaj advises to do, I can confirm that the technique  works.

It's a subtle form of self-promotion because it's not pushy. Why?

1) You seek to provide a useful and helpful answer.

2) You redirect to an actual post with actionable tips or case studies.

An excellent post!

Muriel Macgeorge's curator insight, August 5, 2015 6:24 AM

I have recently gone through a very unpleasant experience: as I was looking for a holiday abroad, I gave an agency my e-mail address in order to receive their brochure., which is fine. But the minute I gave them my e-mail I was bombarded with e-mail messages, daily newsletters, invitations to presentations and urges to contact them. As a result, I don't want to hear from them and will certainly not recommend them to anyone I know.

This is a common mistake a lot of companies do when they purchase and set up a CRM. This article shares interesting advice on how to avoid such mistakes.

Google to Reorganize Into New Company Called 'Alphabet'

Google to Reorganize Into New Company Called 'Alphabet' | The Twinkie Awards | Scoop.it
Say goodbye to Google. Say hello to Alphabet.

Google Inc. says it is creating a new operating structure under a newly formed umbrella company it is calling Alphabet Inc. Co-founder and current CEO Larry Page will lead the new company, while Sergey Brin, the other co-founder, will serve as president.

Google itself will be an operating unit and get a new CEO: Sundar Pichai, who had been running Android and Chrome.

It's not just a name change, but a reorganization of the company. In a blog post announcing the change, Page said they wanted a "slimmed down" version of Google, with other businesses, such as Life Sciences and the Calico biotech unit to be their own operating companies. Each unit, Page suggested, would get its own CEO.

The 5 Types of Content That Attract the Most Backlinks

The 5 Types of Content That Attract the Most Backlinks | The Twinkie Awards | Scoop.it

One of the most common and important goals of content is to attract links. Links are still a major part of SEO and probably will be for the foreseeable future.

Backlinks to a post not only help that specific post rank better in search engines but they also help all other posts on your site.

wanderingsalsero's curator insight, August 8, 2015 1:30 PM

Here's another article I haven't read but I DO know that content is important because GOOD content is what generates social shares which is what Google recognizes more than anything today. Ergo... the better you are at creating effective content, the higher you'll rank.

This also would be good for business owners to read because they live in a world of finite resources of time and money and must chose their own priorities.

Top Tips for Running Social Media Giveaways

Top Tips for Running Social Media Giveaways | The Twinkie Awards | Scoop.it
Sweepstakes and contests on a brand’s social channels are a great way to gain followers. If you’ve done either, you know that many rules are in place and those rules have a lot of gray areas. If you’ve run a contest or sweepstakes and hearing there are actual rules about doing this is news to you, listen up! You don’t want to inadvertently get yourself, company or brand into trouble.

The rules confusion is exactly why the folks over at Shortstack asked their legal team to help them compile an easy to comprehend rules template for businesses and brands to follow. And if you don’t believe the gray areas, Shortstack CEO Jim Belosic said the template took a year and a half to construct:

6 mobile marketing strategies that need to die #mobilemarketing

6 mobile marketing strategies that need to die #mobilemarketing | The Twinkie Awards | Scoop.it

When it comes to technology and innovation, the bandwagon mentality rarely works. By the time everyone is doing it or using it, it’s probably nearing the end of its natural lifecycle. That’s why the great innovators take a look at what everyone else is doing and then invent a new way to revolutionize technology.

Mobile marketing is currently experiencing a mad dash toward the familiar and predictable. Like kids scampering to collect the candy after the piñata bursts, mobile marketers are looking to scoop up strategies they think will help them market to their audience, but many of these strategies aren’t worth pursuing anymore.

Let’s take a look at six trategies that are sputtering, confusing and ineffective, or simply need to die:
