Why Content and Social Media Marketing are the New SEO

Why Content and Social Media Marketing are the New SEO | The Twinkie Awards | Scoop.it

It's s a myth to think you can and should be manipulating search engines with back links, page keyword stuffing, duplicate content development, etc. It's old school and much of these processes are no longer relevant to Google.

Today, SEO rankings are a primarily combination of creating and sharing great content, building a web site that works for your visitor, coupled with basic on page SEO best practices we've outlined below.

I have preached this forever. Engagement is the answer. Not SEO trickery.

Cate Ferguson's curator insight, July 23, 11:40 PM

Old 'set and forget - one time only' SEO is long gone.

The replacement SEO of Content Creation with careful optimisation built in is still relevant BUT much more sophisticated than it was.  This is also a tactic that works but needs something more to be as effective as it was.

Enter Social.  Sharing and Engagement are the new keys to effective SEO when combined with good quality, optimised content.  Social engagement is also a Tactic.

The element that brings all of this together is a Strategy - how to fit good website architecture to enhance and enable the best user experience (old SEO), excellent optimised content (the way forward SEO) and that vital elusive Social Engagement tactic (the icing on the cake of modern SEO) into a Strategy that will give you want you want.  Connecting these important tactics to the right outcomes to reach the targets, and goals that will bring you organisation what it needs from your digital presence is what a well designed strategy can bring.

No longer set and forget SEO but alive and responsive SEO  - amazing.

5 Strategies To Break Your Bad Marketing Habits - Fast Company | #TheMarketingAutomationAlert

5 Strategies To Break Your Bad Marketing Habits - Fast Company | #TheMarketingAutomationAlert | The Twinkie Awards | Scoop.it

Basic/ Digest...

In marketing as in life, simply breaking your bad habits isn't enough. You have to replace your former ineffective habits with new, more productive ones.

1. Set your intentions for creating the content.

Decide what you intentions are and set them clearly. For example, if you want to create an emotional connection and awareness, decide how you are going to educate your audience. If you want to move existing buyers through the pipeline, demonstrate how your other customers achieved positive business outcomes.

2. Set clear expectations with your customers.

Stick to the basics of learning: We are goal oriented, we want to be able to show our own breadth of experiences, we want to see relevancy, and we are self-directed

3. Establish clear measures of success.

Bonnie Thomas, manager of content for Lithium, evaluated the cost per lead from content syndication versus webcasts. She found that webcast leads can be as little as 15% the cost of other lead-generation programs like content syndication.

4. Make your content evergreen.

When you do events like webinars, design them so they can be downloaded for several months after the live event has ended.

5. Look for inspiration in disparate industries.

Take inspiration from Breaking Bad’s Vince Gilligan for your content strategy. Gilligan shared this in an interview with the Huffington Post: “I think part of entertainment is making people think. It should keep people wondering, it should keep people contemplating. I don't want to make the kind of entertainment where people instantly forget what they just watched as they tune into the next show.”
