President Aquino has signed Executive Order 79, identifying Vigan, UNESCO-listed World Heritage Site, banning mining in the city.  It also guarantees that Vigan will always stand as it is, free from any mining activity.

Vigan is one of the 20 "product-market thematic tourism cluster destinations" under the national government's National Tourism Development Plan. The DOT listed 78 existing and emerging tourism development areas in the country that will be mining-free and protected from all mining acts, according to the DOT website. The awesome San Agustin Church in Paoay, Ilocos Norte | Philippine Evolution

The awesome San Agustin Church in Paoay, Ilocos Norte | Philippine Evolution | The Traveler | Scoop.it
The awesome San Agustin Church in Paoay, Ilocos Norte - This is one of the most outstanding “earthquake baroque” structure in the Philippines where the primary concern was to design the church for earthquake protection.

The most outstanding feature of the church is the phalanx of buttresses that just out perpendicularly from the sides to strengthen the walls against earthquake damage. It has the most massive buttressing in any church in the Philippines. Fourteen S-shaped buttresses rise in rhythmic cadence from the ground reaching almost to the roof line. A pyramidal finial triumphantly tops each buttress. The visual impact of the San Agustin church in Paoay is unforgettable.

Majestically Burgos , Ilocos Norte

Majestically Burgos , Ilocos Norte | The Traveler | Scoop.it

The municipality of Burgos history tells that the Burgos was formerly called (paritan means to prohibit),  since natives of the town during those time prohibit migration of people from neighboring towns to their place. It was then eventually called Nagpartian (parti means to butcher) during the Spanish era. Nagpartian means a place where an animal was butchered, and a Spanish priest was butchered in the place.  And in 1913 it was renamed Burgos in honor of Father Burgos thru the initiative of then Ilocos 1st district representative Hon. Santiago Fonacier.

Located at the northwestern part of Ilocos Norte Province, the municipality of Burgos is bounded on the north by South China Sea, on the east by the towns of Bangui, on the southeast by Vintar, on the south and west by Pasuquin.

One of the must see places in Burgos is the heritage structure called Cape Bojeador Lighthouse, also known as Burgos Lighthouse,  established on March 31, 1892

Vigan: Calesas and cobblestone calles

Vigan: Calesas and cobblestone calles | The Traveler | Scoop.it

Visiting Vigan, Ilocos Sur has always been a dream. I often wondered what’s it like to walk down the famous cobblestone kalye (calle in Spanish) with the occasional kalesa (horse-drawn carriage) passing you by. How does it feel to be in a place which pretty much resisted change, thereby transporting you back into an era that once was?

The Cape Bojeador Light House | To Be, To Be. Tutubi.

The Cape Bojeador Light House | To Be, To Be. Tutubi. | The Traveler | Scoop.it

According to Wikipedia: "Cape Bojeador Lighthouse, also known as Burgos Lighthouse, is a cultural heritage structure in Burgos, Ilocos Norte, that was established during the Spanish Colonial period in the Philippines.

"It was first lit on March 30, 1892 and is set high on Vigia de Nagparitan Hill overlooking the scenic Cape Bojeador where early galleons used to sail by. After over 100 years, it still functions as a welcoming beacon to the international ships that enter the Philippine Archipelago from the north and guide them safely away from the rocky coast of the town.

"The light marks the northwesternmost point in Luzon. The 65-foot-tall (20 m) octagonal stone tower, the most prominent structure in the vicinity, can be seen from as far away as Pasuquin town in the south and Bangui on the east on a clear day."
