Whitehall has admitted that waste from recycling bins is being shipped to countries including China, India and Indonesia, where much of it ends up in landfill.

The question in cases like this is who is doing the conning. 

 

The difficult truth is that we should consume less and pay more to ensure effective cradle-to-cradle processes. Consumers are complicit in the many cases where we are greenwashed. It often costs more to do the right thing.

 

I am talking about resource recovery not designer keep cups.

With the steady rollout of corporate filings in 2012, the sustainability reporting movement remains strong. Social pressure and the desire to market green initiatives are common themes fueling the trend, yet there are also growing legal concerns.

 

Manage risk with

 

- external verification

- accuracy

- balance

- comparability ( of your data over time against industry norms)

 

I have noticed a tendency to overstate achievements(without qualification of claims) among smaller organisations. These are mostly under the radar but greenwashing is a corporate sin that should be avoided in terms of mangaing reputation.

The market’s perverse water pricing creates opportunities for businesses that look beyond the market and consider the true cost of H20.

The environmental and social costs of global business water use add up to around $1.9 trillion per year, according to new research.

Some of these external water costs already are being internalized and hitting bottom lines: Just last year, the worst drought in the United States in 50 years sent commodity prices skyrocketing. Companies, especially those in the food, beverage and apparel sectors whose margins and supply chains are tightly linked to agricultural commodities, can use the true cost of water to get ahead of the trend of external costs increasingly being internalized through regulations, pricing or shortages...
