More often than not, social media automation robs your social media effort of the very thing it needs most: humanity. The good news is that investing in the right tools, whether your focus is connection, commerce, or content, can save you from coming off as slimy, aggressive, and inhuman.

(From the article): The follow up is where most businesses fall short, and where your business can shine bright! Wait a week or a few, depending on the situation, and then reach back out to them and make sure they are pleased. If it’s a product replacement, make sure the new product works as it should. If it’s a service replacement, makes sure they’re pleased with it. When we take the extra step to follow up it can seal the deal to changing them into a loving and loyal customer because it’s personal and unexpected. And if you’re doing business right – you always want to do the unexpected. Finally, sometimes all the respectful talk in the world won’t absolve situations, and we’ve got to learn to let that go. I’ve dealt with ranters who simply wanted to push and push, and I had to say, “Thank you for your feedback, we will do our best to ensure this doesn’t happen again.” Or, “I appreciate your honesty and will make sure to handle things differently the next time.” We always win when we acknowledge, apologize, and offer a solution that works for them.

(From the article): Extend the Life of Content

Social media is a perfect way to extent the life of evergreen content, or give you ideas to refresh old pieces. Use networks like Twitter to link back to older content pieces that provide info that is still relevant (remember to switch up the messaging!). You can also fill content gaps with older content. Take a look at the social chatter happening in your audience – you may have an old piece that may just need a few statistics updates and new graphics to share.

Why Social Media Does Wonders for Employee Engagement

Why Social Media Does Wonders for Employee Engagement | The Social Network Times | Scoop.it

A 2009 study found that 54% of companies banned Facebook and Twitter at work, according to Wired. It could be safe to say that percentage has likely plummeted substantially in the ensuing seven years, but there are almost certainly still organizations that don’t allow their employees to use social networks.

Their reasoning probably sounds something like this: “Social media is a waste of time.”

While there may be some truth to that statement, social media doesn’t always have to be a waste of time. In fact, a lot of good can result for businesses that maintain active social profiles and allow their employees to do the same.

On the fence about whether to allow your employees to use social networks at work? Here are five reasons why social media should never be banned at the office:
