20+ UK Twitter Users Educators Should Follow

20+ UK Twitter Users Educators Should Follow | The Social Network Times | Scoop.it

Curating your Twitter feed is an interesting task. Sometimes you know exactly what you want to get out of the people whose Tweets you’re spending your time reading. Finding new people to follow on Twitter can range from being fun to being a total pain in the neck. Personally, I tend to look for people who seem interesting, follow them, and give them a ‘trial run’ of sorts, to see if I like what I see. Once they’re in the feed, it becomes clearer how much of an overtweeter they are, or if they really share so little that you miss it. I either keep or unfollow them from there. It works for me, but it does take time to curate the list, which sometimes, frankly, we just don’t have a lot of. To that end, we’ve compiled a list of 20+ folks who are tweeting about education in the UK for you to check out. We’ve included the descriptions they’ve offered of themselves as found on their Twitter profile page – a quick overview to help you decide if they might be interesting to you. The list is absolutely not meant to be exhaustive, but if you have some favorites that we haven’t included here (make sure they are UK focused!) do share them with us by leaving a comment below, mentioning @Edudemic on Twitter or leaving your thoughts on our Facebook page.

4 Reasons Brands and Businesses Need #Twitter by @BrianHughes116 | The Social Network Times | Scoop.it

Twitter is an efficient and effective tool for spreading news quickly to thousands of people. Not only does it give the user opportunity to share relevant information, but followers are able to share posts. Every time this happens, the user’s reach expands exponentially. When used to its fullest potential, Twitter enables brands and businesses to garner leverage by soliciting the attention of influential individuals, and to engage and resolve issues with customers. While there are countless reasons to incorporate this social media platform into any marketing campaign, some of the most significant and impactful are as follows:

Why Visual Content Matters in the Social Age [INFOGRAPHIC]

Why Visual Content Matters in the Social Age [INFOGRAPHIC] | The Social Network Times | Scoop.it

Why Content and Social Media Marketing are the New SEO

Why Content and Social Media Marketing are the New SEO | The Social Network Times | Scoop.it

It's s a myth to think you can and should be manipulating search engines with back links, page keyword stuffing, duplicate content development, etc. It's old school and much of these processes are no longer relevant to Google.

Today, SEO rankings are a primarily combination of creating and sharing great content, building a web site that works for your visitor, coupled with basic on page SEO best practices we've outlined below.

Old 'set and forget - one time only' SEO is long gone.

The replacement SEO of Content Creation with careful optimisation built in is still relevant BUT much more sophisticated than it was.  This is also a tactic that works but needs something more to be as effective as it was.

Enter Social.  Sharing and Engagement are the new keys to effective SEO when combined with good quality, optimised content.  Social engagement is also a Tactic.

The element that brings all of this together is a Strategy - how to fit good website architecture to enhance and enable the best user experience (old SEO), excellent optimised content (the way forward SEO) and that vital elusive Social Engagement tactic (the icing on the cake of modern SEO) into a Strategy that will give you want you want.  Connecting these important tactics to the right outcomes to reach the targets, and goals that will bring you organisation what it needs from your digital presence is what a well designed strategy can bring.

No longer set and forget SEO but alive and responsive SEO  - amazing.

Why (And How) Teachers Are Using Twitter

Why (And How) Teachers Are Using Twitter | The Social Network Times | Scoop.it

Oh, Twitter. You’re so useful for teachers. You connect educators so that they can share tools, tips and tricks, offer insight, and support one another. You bring your sexy social media-ness into the classroom to keep kids interested in what they’re learning when they think they’re actually (sort of) having fun instead.  That said, thereare still skeptics. How can 140 characters be so effective? Does anyone even care what I have to say? How do teachers really use it?

We’re Using Twitter, Facebook Less, Instagram, Tumblr More, Says Data [STUDY] | The Social Network Times | Scoop.it

While Facebook remains the biggest social network by almost every metric that matters – an eye-opening 82 percent of internet users worldwide (excluding China) now have a Facebook account – active usage of the platform has actually fallen over the past six months, reveals new data from GlobalWebIndex.

Facebook leads Google+*, YouTube, Twitter and LinkedIn in the list of top global social networks, but use of all of these platforms has dipped over the past two quarters – Facebook has seen a six percent drop in active usage since Q3 2013, beaten only by YouTube (-8 percent), with LinkedIn (-3 percent), Twitter (-3 percent) and Google+ (-1 percent) also softening.

In the meantime, Instagram goes from strength-to-strength, registering an incredible 25 percent grow in active usage since Q3 2013.

How Scoop.it, Google Plus & Twitter can turn chaos into order

How Scoop.it, Google Plus & Twitter can turn chaos into order | The Social Network Times | Scoop.it

If you do anything professionally related to online technology, you understand the immense amount of data you need to sort through each day. There are the daily content roundups, blogs to read, Facebook posts and to check, tweets to scroll through and news sites. That doesn’t include whatever else arrives in your in-box. I literally cannot keep up with all that I want to know about social media technology and its use for engagement, fundraising and advocacy.

It’s really too much to know. That’s when I began trusting the curators.

Trusting the curators was a strategy I employed to begin to figure out what to read, what I needed to read, and what others whom I trusted thought was important to read. We cannot read it all. We cannot begin to imagine trying to read it all. We must trust to the curators.

Trusting others to curate content has become my primary means for gathering relevant information about social media and particularly nonprofit technology.
