Great infographic.

Robert Blair's curator insight, February 14, 2013 2:02 AM

I think that this is such a great visual for my generation. It is so representative of how we rely, and use technology to demonstrate common core values in the classroom. This is great but it also could be our achilles heel, we need to apeal to all types of learners and visual is just one, there are so many more type that must be catered to so that we can be affective.

A great way to get into using ebooks is to start with some of the free varieties. Ebook readers offer all kinds of accessibility benefits - as well as barriers - and trialling with free books is a good way to experiment with what works for you or your learners.

And also do not forget that amazon also have some books that are free to download too

School libraries need to be hip, cool and relevant to the demands of their school communities.  Kids love this modern approach and feel welcome in their school library.

Information Literacy: A Neglected Core Competency (EDUCAUSE Quarterly)

Information Literacy: A Neglected Core Competency (EDUCAUSE Quarterly) | The Slothful Cybrarian | Scoop.it

Our educational system should first expose students to information literacy and critical thinking in elementary school. Students should develop information literacy as a "habit of mind" that enables them to be sophisticated information finders and users by the time they reach college and then the working world. However, other priorities have prevented this from happening...

What Makes a Good Content Curator?

What Makes a Good Content Curator? | The Slothful Cybrarian | Scoop.it

Excerpted from the article:
"Sharing good content shows you understand what’s interesting and valuable to your target markets. It will help you increase your followers and establish your credibility.
A good content curator has to sift through tons of content, quickly and efficiently, finding what is both relevant and good quality.

So what does a good content curator look like?
1) Really Long Arms:
You have the expanded reach to know the smaller players with a unique perspective, the powerhouse publishers, and all of the niche players. This allows for a healthy variety of content, with differing perspectives.

2) Super Fast Scanning Eyes:
An efficient content curator knows how to scan an article for legitimacy, value, and relevance to their target market.

3) A Raised Eyebrow:
Each time you come upon something new, your eyebrow is already up, because you’re there to sniff it out to make sure it’ll pass the test. People will lose interest in what you share and you will hurt your credibility if you share content that isn’t high quality.

4) A Belly Full of Hunger:
Good content curators love what they do and are passionate about traversing the wide expanse of the web to find the best content possible."

What has long arms and raised eyebrows?

Charlotte L Weitze's curator insight, March 11, 2013 4:43 AM
Robin Good's insight:

Lindsey Weintraub at SocialMediaToday has a short but valuable guide to four key traits a good curator really needs to have.

From the ability to search and tap into sources that should not be what everyone else is looking at, to the ability to know in and out its chosen niche of interest and its players, the good content curator has an uncanny talent for scanning, selecting and triple-verifying anything potentially interesting before even considering showcasing in its selections.

Rightful. Good for anyone just starting out with curation. 7/10

Pamela D Lloyd's curator insight, March 23, 2013 9:02 PM

As a writer, I find this set of predictions both interesting and, well, less than overwhelming. I'd like to see more creativity, especially with regard to the "least likely" possibilities, and less focus on tech companies. I'm more interested in thinking about what life might be like, than in which social media giant is on top. What predictions do you have, and what do you think are the odds for or against?

Ness Crouch's curator insight, April 19, 2013 5:11 PM

Respect for individual ability and talent and recognising difference. Education should not be standardised on the assumption that all children must eventually go to college.

12 Fabulous Academic Search Engines ~ Educational Technology and Mobile Learning | The Slothful Cybrarian | Scoop.it

In the world of academia, Google search engine does not always serve the purpose because most of the time its search results are not exact . I am a huge fan of Google but when it comes to academic search queries I  often have recourse to other search engines that are area or content specific. I have curated a list of some of these search engines that I personally use and I added to them other titles I found through Julie Greller . Enjoy
