Library Design for the 21st Century Learner: Slideshare

Carolyn Foote, Westlake High School Library & library’s architect presented a case study at the CEFPI (Council of Educational Facility Planners International) Southern Conference in Austin. She attended other sessions as well and listened as they struggled to make sense of the same issues we as educators debate–standardized test scores, the impact of technology, the value of a library, etc.

Makes total common sense which matches up with what most high school libraries already collect...databases with curated ebooks as part of that platform.  Now for a similar "database collection" with award winning fiction books.

Very true Joy; I would also add that with the spread and use of the web, teachers are able to access information more easily today. Tools may differ but approaches may share common features.
Marie Schoeman's curator insight, April 18, 2013 11:28 AM

An education system that is not cogniscent of these dynamic changes, will not be able to take a country successfully into the modern knowledge economy.

Marie Schoeman's comment, April 18, 2013 11:31 AM
And teachers still need to have a wealth of subject knowledge to be successful as mentors and curators.

20 Ways To Make Professional Development More Effective

20 Ways To Make Professional Development More Effective | The Slothful Cybrarian | Scoop.it
Administrators often ask how to best utilize their staff meeting time to promote best instructional practices and improve professional development.

It has been said that once teachers start teaching, we become the most uneducated of professionals about our own profession, failing to research and implement the cutting-edge best practices that make the difference in student engagement and learning. We can’t use 20th century practices with our 21st century students.

In order to encourage and even demand curiosity, creativity, learning, sharing and growing in our students, we must model those traits within our own profession; a staff meeting is the perfect time to cultivate these skills within and among our colleagues.

Although this was written for teachers, it applies equally to any work-based PD.
Aidan Tan Zhao Chern's curator insight, March 14, 2016 11:44 PM

This article i am going to talk about today is about teaching and education in the 21st century. First of all, I agree with the writer that 20th century practices cannot be used with 21st century students, because they are the one who will benefit from it and support the future, and this plan is only foolproof if the students comply.
