The Best Ways to Be Sure You're Legally Using Online Photos

The Best Ways to Be Sure You're Legally Using Online Photos | The Slothful Cybrarian | Scoop.it
For generations, a picture was worth a thousand words. Now, in the social network age, a picture is worth a few hundred likes, some +1's, a handful of retweets, stumbles, tumbles, pins, and shares of all sorts. Oh, and those original thousand words.

Including an interesting, high-resolution photo is a great way to get your online content noticed. But don’t “steal" the image. Attribution isn’t always enough. And “fair use” might not mean what you think it does.

How To Find Openly Licensed Educational Resources You Can Use [Infographic] | The Slothful Cybrarian | Scoop.it
Most of us turn to the internet when we are looking for resources to use for a presentation, report or article. The internet holds the key to so many robust resources.

Yet how many of these resources can you legally use for free? How many of them can you adapt?

That’s where Open Educational Resources (OER) can help. Here’s an infographic from the Center for Open Educational Resources and Language Learning (at the University of Texas at Austin) that can help.

Every language teacher and student should contribute to make this a powerful resource concept. Language is an instrument; use it, take care of it, share it.

Being a Better Online Reader - The New Yorker

Being a Better Online Reader - The New Yorker | The Slothful Cybrarian | Scoop.it
Certainly, as we turn to online reading, the physiology of the reading process itself shifts; we don’t read the same way online as we do on paper. Anne Mangen, a professor at the National Centre for Reading Education and Research at the University of Stavanger, in Norway, points out that reading is always an interaction between a person and a technology, be it a computer or an e-reader or even a bound book.

The New School Library

The New School Library | The Slothful Cybrarian | Scoop.it

Without question, the Internet has changed the way we think and learn, and will continue to do so as our technology evolves. In particular, the ability to access enormous amounts of information at any time from almost any place is forcing schools to redefine the idea of a classroom and the way we approach teaching. It is also reshaping the notion of school library services — what libraries look like and how they and librarians best serve schools.

Digital Storytelling Evaluation Rubrics for Teachers ~ Educational Technology and Mobile Learning | The Slothful Cybrarian | Scoop.it

Are you integrating digital storytelling in your course with your students ? Are you looking for a carefully crafted rubric to help you guide your digital storytelling activities ? Well you don't have to go far, the answers are right below these couple of lines. This is probably the first time I am publishing a rubric on evaluating digital storytelling. I have previously featured several rubrics that are particularly technology focused and all are geared towards helping teachers better integrate technology into their teaching.
