Service enables brands to learn their customers’ music tastes | The Shape of Music to Come | Scoop.it
Hoping to bring the capabilities of Facebook Graph Search to music taste, 25mostplayed.com aims to provide a greater insight into the listening habits of consumers to give businesses a deeper understanding of their fans.
Steven Mathisen's curator insight, December 18, 2020 6:09 AM

This is an article of a website that could give you better understanding of your fans. Looks like a good resource for getting to know your fan base better. This does not look like a site audio professionals use because it is just posts of new innovations by the creators trying to promote their products. You should be careful what you take from posts on this website.

jimtpham.02@gmail.com's curator insight, August 22, 2021 11:40 PM

i think this is a very interesting topic, but I fear that companies will take your data without your consent. I don't think the use of this technology is necessary. I think these businesses ' resources can be put to better use.

This is a opinion article. All about their thoughts on what apple could probably do. I do not believe this is a trusted news source for audio professionals.

Spotify, Pandora and the profits problem for streaming music

Spotify, Pandora and the profits problem for streaming music | The Shape of Music to Come | Scoop.it
Artists like Thom Yorke are angry about meagre musician payouts, but concerns remain over long-term business models. By Stuart Dredge
Steven Mathisen's curator insight, December 18, 2020 5:08 AM

I like the detail in this article about the future of streaming services. I see that it was well researched. It provides facts about revenue and investing in streaming services. Seems to be a well know news organization. I do not think it is a major resource for audio profession because it has many different news topics it covers.

jimtpham.02@gmail.com's curator insight, August 22, 2021 11:46 PM

I think large businesses are hard to run. You want to satisfy all artists and treat everyone fairly, but sometimes they can be unfair and harm their users. I think the artist has every right to be angry with the issues they've experienced.

Business Matters: Misinterpreting The Size, Shape and Momentum of the Digital Music Marketplace

Business Matters: Misinterpreting The Size, Shape and Momentum of the Digital Music Marketplace | The Shape of Music to Come | Scoop.it
The data should create the narrative, not the other way around. A number of journalists have ignored this rule in recent weeks.
jimtpham.02@gmail.com's curator insight, August 22, 2021 11:43 PM

I believe that in a perfect world, the data would accurately represent the Marketplace, but realistically, we can never be 100% sure. I think the article has good representation and good supporting facts and claims.

Wilkins B Aaron's curator insight, January 24, 2022 1:30 PM
For years music insiders have misinterpreted the data used to keep up with consumer demand. As the masses change the way they engage with music, new strategies are needed and the time is now.

Spotify: If musicians don't give us their stuff they get pirated more

Spotify: If musicians don't give us their stuff they get pirated more | The Shape of Music to Come | Scoop.it

"A study by economist (and occasional Reg contributor) Will Page sheds new light on the relationship between streaming services and piracy. Artists who withhold from Spotify may suffer from increased piracy, he finds. Since Page works for Spotify, the words of the great prophet M'andee-rice Davies spring to mind - but it's worth a read nonetheless, as there’s a lot of new research here"

jimtpham.02@gmail.com's curator insight, August 22, 2021 11:49 PM

I think this study is very important and that artists should be aware of certain policies that could harm their brand. I think big corporate businesses should be studied more often and should be open with their policies to keep artists from possible ramifications in the future.
