Have you ever wondered what music LOOKS like?  An artist from Germany has developed an art form called SONIC SCULPTURES that he claims can capture and allow you to visualize the energy and drama that you feel when you hear certain music.  He does this by placing a thin layer of paint on a membrane stretched onto a speaker.  Then he takes photographs of what happens to the paint when the volume is turned up to timeless pieces like Miles Davis' Pharoah's Dance or Pink Floyd's On The Run.  I wonder how this visual interpretation of music resonates with people who have hearing deficits?

At Orchard Garden Pilot school in Boston, security guards were replaced with art teachers. Three years later, students are reaping the benefits.

Using arts as a fundamental tool for education increases attendance, raises academic performance and may reduce behavioral problems.  Why is this?  Well, the research hasn't produced a definitive answer, however a study is underway to track performance of students in lower income areas in schools provided with a new arts integrated curriculum.

The art form is called “Process of Elimination”.  Images of Victorian era (or other era) paintings are digitally altered by “painting” over them or eliminating important elements that contribute to the feel and mood of the original work.  The resulting work elicits a completely different visceral and intellectual response than the original.  To me, it’s eerie and lonely, and yet intriguing.  What do you think?

For those who have had a stroke or suffer from Parkinson’s disease, walking or opening a door can be a challenge. And for most, the thought of dancing would be out of the question. Not at Texas Health Dallas, however.

Doctors at Texas Health Dallas have recognized incredible vlaue in the art of dance as a therapy for those suffering from Parkinson's disease or recovering from stroke. Patients in dance teacher Misty Owens' class improve their range of motion, flexibility and balance.
