The Phantom Diaries: The Ukraine, Putin, and Hitler?

The Phantom Diaries: The Ukraine, Putin, and Hitler? | The Phantom Diaries | Scoop.it
Steven Rogers's insight:

It is highly unlikely that a truce / ceasefire will hold in eastern Ukraine.  Too much bloodshed and weaponry is now deployed to summarily end it with a "political solution".  This recent "peace talks" exercise smells strongly of "appeasement", a tactic that was attempted with Hitler prior to the outbreak of WW II.  Regrettably, if he continues in down the same path as Hitler, it will lead to more, and more border incursions through Russian supported "rebel" aggression, not only with Ukraine, but other Baltic states.  Ultimately, if there is not a swift and firm stand against such aggressive tactics soon, it will lead to WW III, and no one will "win" that one because it will be fought at a scale of devastation and bloodshed unheralded in history!

Steven Rogers's insight:

FirstLady Michelle Obama urged Hollywood to give a more accurate portrayal of veterans and defended the Oscar-nominated "American Sniper," which has received criticism for its depiction of war.  It has become a box-office sensation and has strong supporters but has also weathered a growing storm of criticism that the film glorifies murder and serves as war propaganda.

The Phantom Diaries: Julian Assange – Sucking Our Resources

The Phantom Diaries: Julian Assange – Sucking Our Resources | The Phantom Diaries | Scoop.it
Steven Rogers's insight:

British police are reviewing a policy to maintain a 24-hour watch on Julian Assange, more than 2 years after the WikiLeaks founder fled into the Ecuadorean Embassy in London to avoid extradition for a sexual assault case in Sweden.  Posting police outside of the embassy had cost upwards of $15 million a year, according to official estimates released last week.  The revaluation of this staggering figure had sparked fury across the country, with Stephen Greenhalgh, deputy mayor for policing and crime in London, describing the sum as an "eye-watering amount of money".

The Phantom Diaries: Bay of Ukraine or Bay of Pigs

The Phantom Diaries: Bay of Ukraine or Bay of Pigs | The Phantom Diaries | Scoop.it
Steven Rogers's insight:

Is it smart to arm Ukraine? Everyone thought it was smart to arm Afghanistan vs. Russia and Iraq vs. Iran, but we have seen how that ended up. Remember this folks, if we get involved and arm them, don't get angry when Russia decides to arm someone that is at odds with one of our allies. When you put your noses into other peoples affairs there are other consequences that come with it. I remember a time when we almost got into a nuclear conflict over Russia arming Cuba.

The Phantom Diaries: Ventura the Hero - NOT!!!! | The Phantom Diaries | Scoop.it

"AmericanSniper" is tops at the box office but don't expect to see former Minnesota Gov. Jesse Ventura lining up at a theater for it.  Ventura, a former Navy SEAL, won $1.8 million in a defamation lawsuit last year against the estate of the late Chris Kyle, the SEAL protagonist of the movie, which has sparked debate over whether snipers should be considered heroes.  Ventura said Wednesday he won't see the film partly because Kyle is no hero to him.

It is a movie, not a documentary so everyone lighten up.  If you don't want to see it, then don't.
