The Psychology of Search – 5 Ways To Optimize For User Demand

The Psychology of Search – 5 Ways To Optimize For User Demand | The Perfect Storm Team | Scoop.it

When search engines first revolutionized the Internet by indexing web pages and making it easier for people to find content by subject, those at the forefront of the industry quickly realized the value of maximizing their visibility through these search engines.

They surmised that a few identifiable criteria were used by the algorithms to understand websites and match them with searchers. Thus began the rise of ‘blackhat’ SEO tactics, such as keyword stuffing and backlinking.

The psychology of the consumer has been changing, however. Consumers are more sophisticated and better at inputting queries that help them quickly find what they are looking for. They are less likely to sift through second and third pages of results, especially on mobile devices.

As search engines are better able to separate high quality content from low, marketers must stop chasing the algorithm and optimize content for the user.

5 Reasons companies are bringing their marketing in house

5 Reasons companies are bringing their marketing in house | The Perfect Storm Team | Scoop.it

Here’s a significant trend described in a very fine digital marketing research report from SoDA — in the past year there has been a dramatic spike in the number of companies who no longer work with outside marketing agencies — 27 percent, up from 13 percent in the previous year.

This shift to marketing in house is even more remarkable considering the report also shows overall spending on digital marketing is going UP.The shift in North America is a little higher — 28 percent. The association describes this trend as “alarming” (if you work for an agency) but stops short of fully explaining why. They say that more agency work is focusing on innovation and specialized tasks but don’t really say why more companies are bringing work in-house. A lot more....

Why Marketers Should View Video as a Way to Reach Millennial Women

All eyes are on video today as more and more consumers tune into online video content. A stunning 300 hours of video are uploaded to YouTube every minute for its more than 1 billion users to enjoy. And the explosion of social video platforms like Vine and Vimeo are offering even more places to view these videos. According to the IAB, 25% of all Americans watch digital video, with Millennial women driving its rapid growth. Marketers know that video is useful because it elevates storytelling beyond the basic narrative and provides a vehicle for delivering compelling content to Millennials, who tend to disregard advertising. Since video matters so much to Millennial women, it needs to matter to social media marketing experts trying to reach this important audience. To help brand marketers create video content that appeals to these young women, MediaPost.com examined Millennial women’s views on video from its recent “What Women Watch” report and shared their video highlights.
