5 Reasons companies are bringing their marketing in house

5 Reasons companies are bringing their marketing in house | The Perfect Storm Team | Scoop.it

Here’s a significant trend described in a very fine digital marketing research report from SoDA — in the past year there has been a dramatic spike in the number of companies who no longer work with outside marketing agencies — 27 percent, up from 13 percent in the previous year.

This shift to marketing in house is even more remarkable considering the report also shows overall spending on digital marketing is going UP.The shift in North America is a little higher — 28 percent. The association describes this trend as “alarming” (if you work for an agency) but stops short of fully explaining why. They say that more agency work is focusing on innovation and specialized tasks but don’t really say why more companies are bringing work in-house. A lot more....

Websites Don't Age Well: 5 Web Redesign Ideas

Websites Don't Age Well: 5 Web Redesign Ideas | The Perfect Storm Team | Scoop.it

Websites don't age well. Sooner than you think it's time for a web redesign, but don't forget the 5 CSFs (Critical Success Factors) shared here.

5 Critical Success Factors For When Your Web Redesign

Start with Why.Listen to customer votesTest if you can, jump in if you can’t.5 Easy to forget things.Prepare for rain, hope for sun.

This post features behind the scenes notes from our http://www.Moon-Audio.com redesign. Picture above is a "Before" and "After" view of Moon Audio's website. We spent a lot of time working on the site's information architecture.

We spent so much time because we have a lot of customer data now thanks to Google Analytics. We used that data to find the 80-20 rule and kept that finding in mind as we changed site navigation and categories.

This kind of "What Business are we In" work goes to the first two bullet point - Start with Why and Listen To Customer Votes. Another goal, not stated in the Curagami post, was to create an immediate sense of "I'm in the right place" scenttrail.

Ecommerce, especially in popular categories such as #headphones and #electronics, have two kinds of sties. One site is informational making money from passing customers over to sellers. Cnet.com is an example of a content site making money by capturing attention with great content and then passing customers on to a site where they can buy what they've just researched.

The New Ecommerce
We see the New Ecommerce merging Cnet and commerce to build sustainable online community. But there's a problem. Either of those missions is a full-time job - commerce, content or community. Merchants will need to delegate content creation to trusted members of their community and find ways to merchandise content and commerce more seamlessly than ever before.

The new Moon-Audio.com begins the move toward sustainable online content, commerce and community by clearly signalling THIS IS A STORE. Soon we hope to increase the signal to THIS IS A STORE WHERE YOU CAN LEARN TOO and finally THIS IS A COMMUNITY WHERE YOU CAN BUY AND LEARN.

Mashing up, curating and listening are the new skills needed to be a successful online merchant. No ecom site is GREAT at content, commerce and community...yet. Moon-Audio.com will fire on all three ideas over the next few months. Stay tuned.

Drone Marketing: Is Your Content Marketing This Cool?

Drone Marketing: Is Your Content Marketing This Cool? | The Perfect Storm Team | Scoop.it

Drone Marketing
Watch the insanely cool video of the DARPA drone flying indoors at 45mph and ask if your content is that cool. Even better ask how you can co-opt cool content like this to serve your brand, website and goals.

The web is always about two things - NOW and EVERYTHING. If you and your team truly understand those ideas and how they apply to the web and your online marketing then you watch a seemingly unrelated video of a drone thinking, "How can we use this".

The web is always about NOW and EVERYTHING so if you use the platform your marketing is always happening NOW and is about EVERYTHING whether you realize it or not.

Marketing's Next Big Thing: The Internet Of Things

Marketing's Next Big Thing: The Internet Of Things | The Perfect Storm Team | Scoop.it

The IoT promises to add intelligence to everything from commonplace consumer items such as cars, light bulbs, and refrigerators, to industrial items such as machinery, railroad ties, and agricultural fields. Those “things” can collect and broadcast data across networks, enabling the data to be analyzed to add more value.

Consumer and industrial products will be valued increasingly not just for their standalone functionality, but also for how well they work within the digital ecosystem. In the consumer realm, companies’ marketing success will depend on their ability to connect with, and creatively exploit, the interdependent network of apps, devices, and services....

Changing Hero Marketing: Everything Is Everything

Changing Hero Marketing: Everything Is Everything | The Perfect Storm Team | Scoop.it

Thanks to FedEx
Sharing our Hero Marketing Haiku Deck last week with a group of Small to Medium Sized Businesses taught us how to tune the message. We noted how the TACTICS of competing with Amazon sparked real interest.

There are two components to competing with Amazon:

* 4Cs.
* Everything Is Everything.

Four Cs
Content, Customers, Commerce and Community are the four pillars of creating successful online marketing. The Uber-Goal is creating sustainable online community, or a community growing faster than its costs.

You create online community by curating more than you create and moving from US to WE. Content is how you signal customers your site, brands and company GET IT and want to create community.

You know you've created community when following increases, heuristic measures such as time on site, pages viewed and bounce rates improve and your site is getting closer to the magical 50% returning 50% new visitor mix.

Everything Is Everything
We've been struggling to explain how interconnected everything is these days. SEO, content marketing, content curation, email marketing, social media marketing and mobile marketing are working hand in glove now at increasingly faster pace. This more, faster, better loop means today's commerce is tomorrow's content, today's community is tomorrow's customer and round and round like a furious merry go round.

You win hearts, minds and loyalty today by understanding how to work the 4cs into a sustainable online community, a community of advocates wiling  to sacrifice and support you, your brand and ideas.
