How to Create an Effective Hashtag Strategy for Instagram

How to Create an Effective Hashtag Strategy for Instagram | The Perfect Storm Team Mobile | Scoop.it
To take full advantage of Instagram marketing, you need to incorporate hashtags. Here is how to create an effective hashtag strategy for Instagram.

janlgordon's curator insight, August 27, 2014 9:03 AM

I selected this article from Curatti written by Jenn Herman because I'm love Instagram and if you know what you're doing it can be very effective if it's appropiate for your particular business needs.

Hashtags here and on Twitter are a must to keep the conversation going, attract potential customers and/or a following, learn what your competitors are saying and doing........but if you don't use them properly it can work against you.

Here are a few things that caught my attention:

Hashtags

Instagram allows you to use up to 30 hashtags per post. But that doesn’t mean you should be using that many! Depending on your brand and your audience, you will likely find a sweet spot between 5 and 10 hashtags per post.

Using less than 5 hashtags limits the number of searches in which your post will appear. But using too many looks spammish and can annoy your followers.

Use Relevant Keyword Hashtags

Your hashtags should include relevant keywords that are associated with your post. If you sell jewelry, including tags like #gold, #jewelry, #fashion, and #gemstones would be considered relevant.

These should relate directly to the item or content in your post.

Don’t design for mobile, design for mobility

Don’t design for mobile, design for mobility | The Perfect Storm Team Mobile | Scoop.it

MOBILITY IS ABOUT THE CONTEXT, NOT THE DEVICE

Just when we were starting to get used to the tools, frameworks and methodologies needed to design good mobile apps, we find the device landscape is changing again: smartwatches and other connected wearables, sensors and everything under the “Internet of Things” umbrella are bringing new complexity to our field, and makes it very difficult to tell where “mobile” or an “app” really starts and ends.

And we designers are having a hard time getting used to it. Given that many of us first approached mobile design through responsive web design, it’s been much easier to approach mobile design as if it were some kind of “smaller web with touch support and camera access”.

But the upcoming products and services are meant to live fluidly across a range of devices, sensors and network connections. So I believe that mobility, rather than mobile, defines much better the kind of environment we will have to design for.

Rather than a focus on a specific device, designing for mobility is a broader approach to design; one that delivers value because it can be transmitted by any combination of devices. Mobility forces us to think broadly and zoom out from specific devices to look at the ecosystem in which we will be designing.

Why Are Brands Turning to Social Media Influencers?

Why Are Brands Turning to Social Media Influencers? | The Perfect Storm Team Mobile | Scoop.it
As many brands realize, the best audience to target for marketing purposes are women, and even more specifically – the mother community.

These modern day moms are not what they used to be. Today, in between work, social commitments and taking care of families, their primary focus lies in researching new products and services online.

Being addicted to social media, they also share their thoughts and experiences online, leveraging their powerful presence to either make or break a brand.

The Incredible Importance of Mobile to Small Businesses

The Incredible Importance of Mobile to Small Businesses | The Perfect Storm Team Mobile | Scoop.it
Any edge your small business (SMB) can gain to stay in the ring with your heavy weight competitors is crucial. In a world full of millennial customers, your advantage is your mobile presence. Bottom line—if your business is not set up to serve the mobile population, look for a knock out punch to come from the competition.

It’s no secret that SMB is the backbone of the American economy. It’s also no secret that technology is a major factor in a SMB’s success. You would think that as technology continues to evolve that SMBs would have greater opportunities to compete with their larger competitors. This is the case on some occasions, but for most, modern technology is evolving faster than businesses can keep up with, thus leaving many scrambling to understand the changes they need to make.

What will Facebook Messenger ads mean for marketers?

What will Facebook Messenger ads mean for marketers? | The Perfect Storm Team Mobile | Scoop.it
Every tech and media publisher has written about a reported leaked document showing Facebook's plans to introduce ads to Messenger.

'Advert' seems a strong word, given they will be more like email; messages sent to customers who have opted in.

Whatever we call them, what might Facebook Messenger ads mean for marketers?

Via Brian Yanish - MarketingHits.com, John van den Brink

Andrea J Ross's curator insight, February 22, 2016 6:45 PM

Many people are recently opting to use messaging apps rather than email even in professional settings because of its speed and lack of clutter. They are quick and easy to use and make communicating very simple. Facebook recently leaked a report that they may be adding a new feature where businesses can send out adds through their messaging app similar to WeChat. Users will be able to select which brands can send them messages and will be able to unsubscribe easily. It seems like it would be similar to promotional emails sent to fans of certain brands. The fact that Facebook is putting many regulations in place, such limiting posts per day, preventing irrelevant messages, and giving the option to opt out easily, this may be an excellent way for businesses to advertise their brands and for fans to learn new information quickly and easily. This also opens the door to even further utilities brands can employ in the Facebook messaging app such as purchasing in the app or tracking deliveries. As social media platforms evolve and become more user friendly, they offer many more opportunities for businesses and their marketing strategies as well. Facebook and the brands trusted by Facebook are clearly thinking ahead of the curve and are keeping up with the evolving market very well. I think this idea seems great because I just imagine getting messages instantly such as learning about new sales, which can be useful if you lead a busy life.
