How to Develop a Sound Mind

How to Develop a Sound Mind | PEOPLE BUILDING | Scoop.it

A sound mind in a sound body, is a short, but full description of a happy state in this World: he that has these two, has little more to wish for; and he that wants either of them, will be little the better for anything else. – John Locke

There are a number of diverse issues that could alter our wellbeing / contentment — entailing aliment, standard of living, workout routines, anxiety, family, and line of business et al. However, the principal aspect that frequently gets ignored is the strength of the mind. Sound mind is the gateway to form / sustain an active and cheerful life.

Your beliefs are exceptionally influential and can direct all phases of your life comprising your health. Most of us are only to some extent conscious of the reasonings that run through our mind. To truly concentrate and have knowledge of all ideas that you sense can be draining and not to point out, kind of intimidating too.

Delegation, an indication that identifies a real leader!

“Following the suggestion of a reader, in my last leadership mantra, I’ll approach with you a topic that is, in my opinion, very often misunderstood and not often enough used to fair value.”

What are the words that come to your mind when you hear or you think to delegation?

Before reading further, you could invest a few minutes, to be clear about this issue.

What is emerged and to which group you belong to?

What is our capacity to do great things? It is very large!

Sometimes I wonder what we mean when we talk about capacity. It is a word that often refers to the obtained results. But for my part, I consider that this is only one basic element which, if used properly, will yield interesting results and, in the contrary, disappointment will be greater.

7 Reasons You Don’t Meditate, Even Though You Know You Should

7 Reasons You Don’t Meditate, Even Though You Know You Should | PEOPLE BUILDING | Scoop.it

Meditation is one of those things that once you’ve carved out a daily practice, you can’t imagine not having it in your life. But before that, when your desire to catch some ‘OMs’ is born of reading books like Eat Pray Love or anything by Louise Hay, and looking at calming images of people sitting poised against a lush green forestry backdrop, meditation can often be something that brings up an inner battle of excuses.

Here are some common ones, along with explanations about why they don’t really exist:

1. “I don’t have the time”

This is ironic. You may feel like you’re wasting time by just sitting around and doing nothing, but it’s quite the opposite. Regular meditation creates space in your mind, heightens your concentration levels, and helps you cope with stress.

What to Do When You're Stuck

What to Do When You're Stuck | PEOPLE BUILDING | Scoop.it

Earlier this week we touched on NaNoWriMo, and one of the things that plagues those taking part in the “novel-writing in 30 days” process is getting through the blocks so that you can get the book written in such a short time frame. Admittedly, I’ve already come across that myself – I am sitting below pace as I write this piece – and I would be even further behind if it wasn’t for a few tactics I put in place to jumpstart my writing.

But it isn’t just writers (or November writers) that face this problem. Everyone does. At one time or another, you hit a wall. There are a number of reasons for it – burnout, lack of project scope, a waning interest in what you’re doing – but there are also several ways you can push through the work stoppage and get moving again. The sooner you realize you’re stuck, the more effective each of these tips will be because you’re not too mired in the mud of stagnation...

3 Things a CEO Learned: a Yoga Manifesto

3 Things a CEO Learned: a Yoga Manifesto | PEOPLE BUILDING | Scoop.it

Def Jam records founder Russell Simmons, “The Voice” star and singer Adam Levine, and Jon Bon Jovi all practice yoga. People from all walks of life, all ages and all religions practice yoga for spirituality, relaxation, detox, strength and flexibility. Looking in from the outside, I always wondered, “What do they know that I don’t?”

When my wife suggested taking a yoga class two years ago, I went with trepidation and visions of chanting, incense, and body parts in odd places.

What I didn’t know at the time was that I was beginning a journey learning more about myself and, surprisingly, more about business than I learned at one of the top ten business schools in the country and 20 years of professional experience.
Here are three things I learned:

Lose the Excuses

Lose the Excuses | PEOPLE BUILDING | Scoop.it

A very inspiring text to start a new day. I totally agree, apologies are never a good idea and they will never give us success in our lives. [note mg]

As a college teacher, I hear my share of excuses. They all start with, but you don’t understand…

  • People from my neighborhood don’t…
  • People of my race won’t…
  • Women can’t…
  • Poor people never…
  • People my age shouldn’t…

I’m a very short (5’1”) African-American middle-aged woman. I have tons of excuses not to succeed, take your pick.

Discrimination does not have my permission to enter my life; therefore I have no use for the excuse. You may use any one of them to fail if you’d like. In the meantime, I’ll keep succeeding...

The Two-Headed Beast of Successful Habit Change

The Two-Headed Beast of Successful Habit Change | PEOPLE BUILDING | Scoop.it

I used to have a lot of bad habits. I still do, but I used to have a lot more. Here’s just a small sampling:

  1. I woke up late and went to bed early.
  2. I procrastinated on my most important work.
  3. I neglected my relationships.
  4. I drank too much.
  5. I bit my fingernails.
  6. I slouched a lot.
  7. I picked my nose (no joke).
  8. I bought worthless things I didn’t need.
  9. I chewed with my mouth open.
  10. I dressed like a slob.
  11. I ate tons of junk food.
  12. I could go on, but none of that’s incredibly important.

What’s important is that I used to have a lot of bad habits, and now I have fewer.

I spent years dissatisfied with my habits and never made much progress changing them. Yes, sometimes I’d make a small step forward, but it usually wasn’t long until I was back to “Old Tyler” again (thanks, procrastination habit).

TODAY’S LEADERSHIP MANTRA : Move!

TODAY’S LEADERSHIP MANTRA : Move! | PEOPLE BUILDING | Scoop.it

[Today 01-27-2012 for practical issues, I decided to integrate the TODAY'S LEADERSHIP MANTRA topics here.]

Move forward, always moves forward, such is life.

When we say that to stop, it’s go to the back, it’s reality. We live in a world where everything goes very fast and where we must be able to be adaptable, to be open to new things and to assimilate them.

What is it that can prevent us from moving forward, if not ourselves, perhaps fear, but as Victor Kiam has well said:

“Even if you fall on your face, you’re still moving forward.”

that should give us enough courage to know that we are moving forward in all cases.

As a leader, we know that the only way to achieve his goal is to start and move constantly. The momentum thus created will also galvanize the team who will be drawn, with you, into the spiral to success.

TODAY’S LEADERSHIP MANTRA: Tenacity.

TODAY’S LEADERSHIP MANTRA: Tenacity. | PEOPLE BUILDING | Scoop.it

Tenacity, a word that can take us very far!

It is an attitude that I used very often in my life and, of course I use it always. Without it, I would have given up many times when I was near the goal, with, probably, some regrets later. But we must distinguish between tenacity and stubbornness. If the first leads most often to the summits, the second would tend to lead us to the disappointment or failure.

In this spirit, what Mia Hamm said is very true:

“I’ve worked too hard and too long to let anything stand in the way of my goals. I will not let my teammates down and I will not let myself down.”

As a leader, we know the difference between tenacity and stubbornness, and we use it wisely to advance, while showing to our team that this attitude makes the difference on the road to success.
