letter to president
The way the dust bowl and the great depression affected us was in a more painful way ever. The dust destroyed our crops and killed many people. It caused horrible grief for the people of the United States and the world. Because of the great depression and the dust bowl famers were unable to pay off debt and because of that they would lose their farms. The dust bowl was a natural disaster. Because of the dust people were unable to buy consumer goods. The people in the rural district were forced to live on credit and they were an uneven distribution on health. Because of this the workers productivity rose faster and the consumers supply good was larger then the consumer goods.
Workers wages grew and wealthy industrial business grew even more. The gap between the rich and the poor grew extremely. Credit made the economic problem even more because many Americans was consuming on credit to buy everything from cars to stocks. The more people bought with credit the more debt accumulated. Because of this crime went up a lot.
The great depression happened in 1929 and lasted all the way till World War 2. Because of the depression the county grew more prosperous. The stock market had gone up and was turned into the bull market. Farmers had faced a hard time also because the crops went down after World War 1. The farmers were in debt because of the tools they needed to keep the farm going. The farmers owed money to the banks but they were unable to sell.
Because the people started realizing and losing confident in the stock market they began to start selling their stocks. Around Oct. 29th banks started to fail and banking system collapse. The unemployment rate started to grow and it made people homeless and brought pain to the families. The depression caused a weak economy. There was also a loss of money and hope for many.
Because the United States was having a great depression it caused the world to have global depression. Countries from all over the world suffered from this pain and agony that its caused the people that was getting money from the united states to go in to their depression. The British, Germans, and allies became part of this depression.
