The Industrial Age is Dead - Time is the New Money

The Industrial Age taught us to value money above time. Giant Corporation, Inc. wanted you to focus on making money, not on having time to do anything with it. They needed all your time to run the machines. In the 21st Century we will understand that riches may equal money, but wealth equals freedom – the ability to choose what to do with my time. We will understand that money does not give us freedom, only time can do that.

The other shift that must happen if we were to change this paradigm is Energy Management and not Time Management.

Resiliency, Risk, and a Good Compass: Tools for the Coming Chaos

Resiliency, Risk, and a Good Compass: Tools for the Coming Chaos | The Next Edge | Scoop.it

Joi Ito - There are nine or so principals to work in a world like this:

1. Resilience instead of strength, which means you want to yield and allow failure and you bounce back instead of trying to resist failure.

2. You pull instead of push. That means you pull the resources from the network as you need them, as opposed to centrally stocking them and controlling them.

3. You want to take risk instead of focusing on safety.

4. You want to focus on the system instead of objects.

5. You want to have good compasses not maps.

6. You want to work on practice instead of theory. Because sometimes you don’t why it works, but what is important is that it is working, not that you have some theory around it.

7. It disobedience instead of compliance. You don’t get a Nobel Prize for doing what you are told. Too much of school is about obedience, we should really be celebrating disobedience.

8. It’s the crowd instead of experts

9. It’s a focus on learning instead of education.

In this video, Kevin Lyons develops a legal strategy for the establishment of free cities, using international law and arbitration techniques as resources, in order to expand options for this social experiment. He also speaks about the possible locations for these cities and explains their internal logic, which focuses on allowing freedom of choice and the free development of individuals.

Hacking Home: Coliving Reinvents the Commune for a Networked Age

Hacking Home: Coliving Reinvents the Commune for a Networked Age | The Next Edge | Scoop.it

Here, “home” is reinvented with a new purpose. It’s a community, an ethos, a series of opportunities for collaboration. And while most young professionals are flocking to urban centers like San Francisco to live in modest apartments, some are building a new American dream in once empty suburban McMansions and luxury downtown digs. In this new scheme, your network isn’t just your Facebook friends or business contacts; It includes your friends, influencers, ad hoc family, and your shared home.

Going beyond work: separating meaning and money, and surviving in the meanwhile | Edgeryders

Going beyond work: separating meaning and money, and surviving in the meanwhile | Edgeryders | The Next Edge | Scoop.it

It was about power. It was not about money, it was about power. I'd begun to understand that, at a profound level, the goals of the market, the goals of capitalism, were directly opposed to my own personal goals for my life and the world, at least in most cases.
