Deepak Chopra: Social Media is the Next Phase of Humanity [VIDEO]

Deepak Chopra: Social Media is the Next Phase of Humanity [VIDEO] | The Next Edge | Scoop.it

“Technology is our creation; we weren’t created by technology, so let’s use our creation to bring about a healing,” Chopra said. “At the most fundamental level, we are not just connected, we are inseparable.”

But harnessing the power of social media, to become something larger than just networking, Chopra said, is a choice for humanity to make — the world is still at a crossroads. Although he said technology itself is neutral, he espoused a message of hope, saying that if harnessed for good, technology could lead the world to a place of good and produce a united solution for the challenges of the world.

“What drones can’t do, what the armies can’t do, what the weapons can’t do, what the weapons of mass destruction can’t do, what biological warfare can’t do — we can do through technology to heal the world,” Chopra said.

Occupying the Future, Starting at the Roots

Occupying the Future, Starting at the Roots | The Next Edge | Scoop.it

In an email sent out in early May, Adbusters urges recipients to “occupy the future;” that is, “to describe, build and sustain the post-capitalist future we want to live in.”

Dayaneni concurs with that sentiment. “People ask me what they can do to support. I say, take more land. Occupy a library, a clinic, whatever, plan it right and [re-launch] it appropriately and at scale. We need to prove that we have the ability to self govern. This is the new moment of occupy, not tit for tat, not cat-and-mouse games with cops, but full-scale intervention. Occupy the Farm is one of the first to-scale interventions.”

DIY Urbanism - Almere Oosterwold

MVRDV‘s proposal for an urban development in Almere Oosterworld, the Netherlands, is a template for a D.I.Y. project that puts power into the hands of neighborhoods and communities. This development strategy is bottom-up, inclusive and very intuitive to the needs of individuals and their communities. It allows the design to develop organically and over a stretch of time as needs change and neighborhoods grow. MVRDV writes that the proposal “is a revolution in Dutch urban planning as it steps away from governmental dictate and invites organic urban growth in which initiatives are stimulated and inhabitants can create their own neighbourhoods including public green, urban agriculture and roads”.
