Co-opoly is a new board game about cooperatives that used crowdfunding and fair trade in its production. Crowdfunding, coworking, and open source have remade the world in substantive, meaningful ways and changed the course of how we conduct creative projects and business transactions alike. At the Toolbox for Education and Social Action, we put these new models to use making the widely celebrated board game, Co-opoly: The Game of Cooperatives. In less than a year, we’ve sold nearly 1,000 copies of Co-opoly to people in 20 countries around the world, which surpassed our wildest expectations. Like the models that inspired us, Co-opoly also tries to break the mold, redefining how we learn and play, and especially how games are made. Via Rick Passo Delete the scoop?

One of the problems we need to solve during this transition is to define a strategy to play the open game. How can we make sure that those who invest in open products get rewarded for their contribution? How can we make sure that one can feed his family from participating in the design, production and distribution of open products. We often hear: "if your product is successful you'll get copied"; "if you offer your recipe to everyone no one will buy your product, people will make it themselves"; etc.
Playing the open game is not just about releasing all the information and knowledge about the product. Games require rules. A lot of efforts have been spent on drafting licenses for open products (see example from p2p foundation). But these licenses are, in some sense, as good as patents, i.e. as good as YOU can defend them.

"The IFF World Model is a framework for learning that allows us to engage with the true complexity of our global predicament. It focuses on the key factors in planetary stability and their inevitable interconnections in a living system (often referred to as the Gaian system).
The World Model is particularly powerful when combined with IFF’s Three Horizons framework, and is currently being developed into an interactive World Game."

Last December, a devastating man-made fire burned over 43,000 acres in the iconic Torres del Paine National Park. Since then, the Chile-based non-profit initiative, has been working to restore the ecosystem to its former glory. Among other things, they decided to leverage love for social media games into real world action. Through this creative campaign, Reforest Patagonia recently achieved their first 100,000 tree milestone, and is well on its way to the goal of one million planted trees by 2013. The campaign incorporates social media, GPS technology, and the power of crowdfunding to compel people to get involved with the reforestation effort. The first level of participation is simple: donate $4, and Reforest Patagonia will plant a native-species tree (species: lenga, ñirre, and coigüe) in your name. Donors also receive an official certificate of its authenticity with the tree’s exact GPS coordinates, allowing for the tree to be seen via Google Maps from anywhere in the world. The second level of participation is for those who want to mobilize their online networks for a bigger impact. Groups can use the “Create Your Own Forest” gaming feature to compete for the highest tree count among organizations in similar categories. There are prizes for groups who successfully “plant” the largest forest. by Beth Buczynski | earthtechling.com Delete the scoop?

Summary: "Instead of organizing people into "functions" we may take a cue from some of the greatest games, and organize around "quests". That may sound very designed, but what it means is ad hoc, problem centric organization in which people are allowed to organize themselves around what they perceive to be meaningful, important problems in need of solving."
