Critical Thinking: Educating Competent Citizens

Critical Thinking: Educating Competent Citizens | The New Media Transformation | Scoop.it

In working with students, critical thinking encourages and promotes:

Humility to accept criteria that is not their own.Courage to defend their own criteria against others.Responsibility to contrast and take into account the appropriate information.Commitment to filtering out and separating valid from useless information.Respect for the group and for the individual when the time comes for debate and contrasting ideas.

To educate an individual in critical thinking is to educate him or her to be capable of governing or controlling their own personal and professional life and to be able to find answers and solutions to problems. It is the road to forming critical and responsible citizens who are capable of confronting the challenges of the future.

Excelente reflexão sobre a importância do Pensamento Crítico para a educação de cidadãos competentes. O que ele implica e o que promove.

Sharla Shults's curator insight, February 22, 5:45 PM

So many students simply want the answer...no thinking involved, the easy way. We are doing our youth a tremendous injustice not emphasizing both the metacognitive and critical thinking processes. They need to be able to explore a problem, then analyze, explain, and evaluate it in order to survive as adults.

Innovation Versus Vision

Being Realistic

If your company is not an innovative leader, if it is not focused on relentlessly pursuing a unique strategy, you need to be realistic about where innovation can take you. In theory, you can transform your company into a visionary company that becomes a true innovator like those cited at the beginning of this article. This tranformation will probably mean replacing your CEO with a visionary leader who is willing to make drastic changes to every aspect of your company, starting with its strategy. She will probably need to sell off vast chunks of your business, transform the way you work and get rid of a lot of employees. Those who remain will need to learn to work in new ways. They will also need to legitimise their activities in line with strategy. Budgets, project management, approval methods and much more will need to be changed.

Why (And How) Teachers and Education Should Start Learning and Teaching Cyber-Security

Why (And How) Teachers and Education Should Start Learning and Teaching Cyber-Security | The New Media Transformation | Scoop.it

Why (And How) Teachers Should Start Learning and Teaching Cyber-Security . What should get be taught and learned more in the 21st Century while using ICT?

In the 21st Century, Education has a BIG responsibility to adapt to the very quick change in the world and to teach the students the knowledge they need and which are required to fulfill the market’s needs!

The market’s needs are ALSO to employ people with the basics of Cyber-Security knowledge as a modern company needs to protect its online reputation and a data loss could be lethal to them, their ruin eventually! SO, the new employees is the students coming out of school, College, High school, Universities; ALL of them need to have the basic knowledge of  Cyber-Security to be competitive in a working market where there is more and more unemployment worldwide…

===> A company would take advantage of a new employee who as already the necessary knowledge of Cyber-Security as the company doesn’t need to train him, which saves it a lot of money! <===

description by EdSurge

"Bloomberg TV's "Taking Stock" highlighted connected educators this week, interviewing Lisa Schmucki, CEO of edWeb. EdWeb is a platform that pairs a social network for teachers with webinars for professional learning. In the clip, Schmucki stresses the importance of getting folks in the education industry and those in the classroom to get together more often and think of themselves as colleagues in one big PLC (professional learning community). She explains that teachers are changing from "individual artisans to teams of teachers working together."

One overriding challenge is now coming to the fore in public consciousness: We need to reinvent just about everything. Whether scientific advances, technology breakthroughs, new political and economic structures, environmental solutions, or an updated code of ethics for 21st century life, everything is in flux—and everything demands innovative, out of the box thinking.
