Facebook is taking streaming a step further today, enabling users to broadcast live video to Facebook directly from their desktop or laptop computers.

Facebook is also adding features that make it easy for people with a Facebook Profile to incorporate streaming software or external hardware when going live from a desktop or laptop. Erin Connolly, product manager at Facebook, said in a post that the stable camera on a laptop or desktop will benefit many different types of broadcasts, from video blogs to tutorials.

LinkedIn is launching trending topics to highlight what’s most popular and relevant in your professional world. Officially called Trending Storylines, it’s an additional feed you can access to see curated and interest-based content that’s pulled from publishers, your network, and human editors within LinkedIn. This is not going to replace your existing news feed, but rather complements it.

Available on both mobile and the web, Trending Storylines will show you stories that are developing, meaning you can quickly look up stories your network is talking about or that you may have missed. For me, my connections are currently talking about Google’s Android O, so tapping on that will show me a summary of the issue, likely written by a human editor, along with the most popular articles shared by top influencers, peers, and publications. These topics are based on various signals that LinkedIn has about you, so I won’t necessarily be inundated with stories on farming, for example.

If you’re not applying UTM tags to your Facebook advertising traffic, it’s likely not being categorized correctly. Facebook ad traffic often shows up as m.facebook.com / referral | facebook.com / referral, or something similar without UTM tagging in place. 

In Google Analytics, your main method for viewing lead and sale success should be by navigating to the Acquisition section and selecting Source/Medium. Within this section, we are able to choose both ad content and ad campaign as secondary dimensions; this means that when we use UTMs, we can actually use Google Analytics to see success at the ad level (and do some other cool things).

By choosing a process for the campaign and content UTMs, you set yourself up for success. What does success look like?

The heartbeat of modern marketing: Data activation and personalization | McKinsey & Company

This is a challenge that has continued to plague marketers, despite the promise of solutions such as customer-relationship management (CRM), master-data management (MDM), and marketing-resource management (MRM). These solutions can help companies consolidate and streamline data, manage segmentation, organize workflow, and improve customer relationships. But they don’t take full advantage of digital signals customers provide. Instead, relying on antiquated “list pulls,” basic segmentation, and campaigns, all lack the automated decision making, adaptive modeling, and nimble data utilization to scale personalized interactions.

Enter the Customer Data Platform (CDP)—a data discovery and “decisioning” (i.e. automated decision making) platform. The CDP makes it possible for marketers to scale data-driven customer interactions in real time. And while CDP hasn’t really broken into the Gartner Magic Quadrant or Forrester Wave, it is gradually becoming an industry-standard concept, with a small but growing cadre of third-party platforms emerging that will soon shape the category.
