Everything you know about curriculum may be wrong. Really.

Everything you know about curriculum may be wrong. Really. | The Lexis Nexus | Scoop.it

Grant Wiggins asks us to question what we know about curriculum in this piece...what would happen if we made a significan shift in how we look at curriculum?

"What if the earth moves and the sun is at rest? What if gravity is just a special case of space-time? Following both counter-intuitive premises revolutionized science and ushered in the modern world. Could a similar counter-intuitive thought experiment advance education from where I believe we are currently stuck? I believe so."

InfiniteMonkeys App Store | Go English

InfiniteMonkeys App Store | Go English | The Lexis Nexus | Scoop.it

Download our new free smartphone app - Go English. The app includes a link to our Facebook page, our Twitter feed and this Scoop. It page for quick access to links and tips; a feed of several podcasts and YouTube channels for learners, and Community and Chat apps to keep in contact with other people who use the app wherever you are (obviously these last two won't be too interesting until there are plenty of other people using the app.) NOTE: you will need to allow third-party apps to download and install Go English.

Derek DeWitt's insight:

This app is intended for learners of English, but teachers may find it useful inspiration for making their own apps.

How we decode 'noisy' language in daily life: How people rationally interpret linguistic input

How we decode 'noisy' language in daily life: How people rationally interpret linguistic input | The Lexis Nexus | Scoop.it
Suppose you hear someone say, "The man gave the ice cream the child." Does that sentence seem plausible? Or do you assume it is missing a word?
Derek DeWitt's insight:

And so - how can we use this knowledge in the classroom? It seems pretty clear that this error-correction mechanism is partly responsible for L1 interference - the Ss are "correcting" with their native tongue.
