One day we will be those selfsame barbarous ancestors as driverless cars, delivery drones, wearables, Facebook, Google and the rest become mere artifacts joining Gutenberg’s press, Henry Ford’s car, and Wilbur and Orville Wright’s airplane, as curious in museum exhibitions and footnotes in whatever has taken the place of history books of any sort.

Creator brands: Brands that make culture

Creator brands: Brands that make culture | The Jazz of Innovation | Scoop.it
At their most powerful, brands actually make culture. Creator brands, let’s call them.

Nike changed the way we thought about exercise, fitness, bodies and diet in the 1970s and 80s. Most of us look different and feel different for the work that came from this brand and those brilliant meaning-makers at Wieden + Kennedy.

Innovation without change

I've been puzzling this over the last few weeks, trying to wrap my head around the importance of innovation generally and the lack of real innovation delivery specifically.  What I mean is that everyone knows that innovation is vital to growth and future success, but very few new innovations are created. The vast majority of innovation effort and outcome is expended on me-too, so what incremental innovations that don't really change the user or the market.

Will LiFi Take Big Data And The Internet Of Things To A New Level? | The Jazz of Innovation | Scoop.it
The enormous demand for WiFi and transmissions of mass quantities of data is putting a strain on the current technologies. With the predicted exponential growth of mobile devices, by 2019 more than ten billion mobile devices will exchange 35 quintillion (1018) bytes of information each month — and that’s just mobile devices. Factor in traditional computers, big data servers, and Internet of Things devices and you start to see the magnitude of the problem.

How To Innovate Without All That Costly R&D

Every business needs to innovate in order to thrive. But as corporate research and development grows ever more expensive, it’s also becoming ever less effective. PriceWaterhouseCoopers reports that half of all companies say they are only “marginally effective” (i.e., bad) at converting R&D spending into actual products. Which explains why R&D is so often the target of activist investors.

HealthCare Innovation: Can Big Data and Cognitive Computing Deliver it?

Most people seem to agree that healthcare is ripe for innovation, and badly needs it. Lots of people are talking up two potential sources for that innovation: Big Data and Cognitive Computing.

I’m strongly in favor of cognition, computing, and computing that is smarter rather than dumber. But is the Cognitive Computing movement likely to make a difference? Here’s a summary of some thoughts.
