The Rise Of Company Builders

The Rise Of Company Builders | The Jazz of Innovation | Scoop.it

Entrepreneur-turned-investor is a classic story arc in Silicon Valley but recently the plot has earned a twist. Certain operators are foregoing the traditional path of joining a traditional VC to instead create a studio-like holding operation. By doing so, they remain engaged with the grit and grassroots challenges of building a startup. They remain company builders.

Disruptive Innovation, Change Management & Taking the NO Out of InNOvation

Disruptive Innovation, Change Management & Taking the NO Out of InNOvation | The Jazz of Innovation | Scoop.it

From our experience with The Brainzooming Group and ongoing business innovation research, there are fairly common situations blocking business innovations across companies, irrespective of corporate culture. Not all ten of these challenges to business innovation in organizations exist everywhere, but the presence of just a couple of innovation barriers within a corporate culture will scuttle even modest dreams of implementing business innovations expected to create value for customers.

Disrupt Your Thinking, Transform Your Business

Disrupt Your Thinking, Transform Your Business | The Jazz of Innovation | Scoop.it

Plenty of entrepreneurs claim that they are "disrupting" their industry. But, Luke Williams, a professor of innovation at NYU Stern School of Business and author of Disrupt (FT Press, 2010), says most companies deal only in incremental changes that support their current business model -- and that's not enough.

US Airways and Kimpton Hotels both compete in very crowded market spaces where price can make the difference in a consumer’s final selection.  But one of them knows how to move beyond price to compete on experience and the other doesn’t.

Study Demonstrates the Link Between Collaboration & Growth

Study Demonstrates the Link Between Collaboration & Growth | The Jazz of Innovation | Scoop.it

A recent study by Andy Cosh and Joanne Jin Zhang of the UK Innovation Research centre set out to examine how companies were using open innovation. The report makes a thought-provoking comparison of the innovation styles of companies. It indicates that those companies that are active in open innovation in both giving and receiving ideas achieve higher rates of innovation and of revenue growth.

Carl Heine's curator insight, June 19, 11:17 AM

From the blog: "The clearest is that companies that choose an open style to internal and external exchange of information, ideas and technologies achieve the highest rates of product innovation and growth." The study would be worth reading.

If you are still working for an employer and think that becoming self-employed is something you really don’t need to need on your plate at the moment, then you’re living in denial. That’s what I said. You’re pretending that, despite the upheaval in the workplace it has nothing to do with you.

Where Does Innovation Come From?

Where Does Innovation Come From? | The Jazz of Innovation | Scoop.it

A recent trip to Italy meant my first visit to Florence, home of my youngest daughter’s favorite pizza and my oldest daughter’s new leather purse.   For me it was the discovery of something much different, I think Florence is where innovation was born – and perhaps an inspiration for your business to get unstuck.

Innovation Opportunity: People Don't Know What They Want

Innovation Opportunity: People Don't Know What They Want | The Jazz of Innovation | Scoop.it

About twelve months ago I gave up drinking pop for the third time – or soda, if you’re like my wife Nancy (if you’re from the US, check this out for why this is such a point of contention).  The previous two times I stayed off the wagon for as long as nine months, then fell back into the habit.

Advancing Innovation and Quality

Advancing Innovation and Quality | The Jazz of Innovation | Scoop.it

I'm happy to let you know I've been selected as an "influential" voice - by the American Society for Quality (ASQ).  The folks at the ASQ assure me they understand that I'm focused on innovation rather than an expert on quality, and are even ok with the fact that sometimes quality and innovation don't see eye to eye.  My goal is to write occasionally about quality from an innovation point of view.

From intuition to creation

From intuition to creation | The Jazz of Innovation | Scoop.it

It’s a classic case of “theory to practice.” My previous book, Strategic Intuition, laid out the theory. It explained the science of how creative ideas happen in the human mind and documented how successful innovators actually came up with their innovations. This new book, Creative Strategy, is the practice: it shows how to apply that theory as an innovation method yourself.

Sustainable Innovation a Key to Future Markets

Sustainable Innovation a Key to Future Markets | The Jazz of Innovation | Scoop.it

Innovation is the elixir of growth in a competitive globally growing business and technology environment. It is a skill that everyone has, but they think they do not.

If you have ever marveled at any person’s creative prowess, guess what, you will be able to create and innovate too. It just takes time. Everyone is born creative. The box of crayons in kindergarten were not restricted to those who possessed potential; because the truth is everyone has potential.

Born in rural Mississippi, he studied at the Cranbrook Academy of Art, in Michigan, worked for the likes of Eero Saarinen, and later lived in California and Connecticut.

Innovation and Culture: Necessity isn’t the Mother of Invention – Culture is!

Innovation and Culture: Necessity isn’t the Mother of Invention – Culture is! | The Jazz of Innovation | Scoop.it

Necessity once was thought to be the mother of invention. Why? Because it makes us want to innovate – or actually, need to innovate. However, most of us are already motivated. As workers in the Age of Ideas, we love to innovate, right? What we need is an environment where innovation comes naturally, where there are no unnatural blocks to our urge to create.
