t’s time for Apple to once again own the educational market. They owned it in most of the 80’s with Apple being synonymous with education until Dell and Gateway delivered prices that just couldn’t be refused. Department after department in at least higher education, went the way of the PC until all that was really left for Cupertino were the Arts and creative subjects. Computers were thought of as commodities with a Dell being as good as a Gateway and an Apple suddenly being an outlier.

Corpus Christi School replaced classroom computers with iPads early in the school year, and now teachers are using the mini-computers to teach language arts, social studies, math and science to the 255 students.

 

Corpus is one of only 1,000 schools in the country with a kindergarten through eighth grade iPad program of this nature.

iPad, iPhones and Blackberrys will no longer be allowed to be used by students in all Sharjah schools, according to Al Bayan newspaper.

 

The Sharjah Educational Zone (SEZ) has issued a circular to the managements of all schools under its purview, asking them to ban the usage of the mobile electronic devices such as iPhone, BlackBerry and iPad in the schools.

The idea of looking up an unknown word in a bulky dictionary seems pretty silly to 11-year-old Josie Proto. Using Google is so much faster.

 

And, to boot, she gets an encyclopaedia of related information on the word she is searching for at the same time.

 

"If we are sitting in a storytelling class at school and do not understand something, we immediately get out our iPads or laptops to find out more," said the Year 6 pupil from GEMS Royal Dubai School (RDS).

“Learning About Technology,” the final program in a semester-long series, takes place at 10 a.m. on Saturday, Dec. 3, at the Children’s Museum, which is located in the McDonald Building at 60 Tompkins St. in Cortland.
