Thrivability > Sustainability - Thrive Design Studio

Thrivability > Sustainability - Thrive Design Studio | The Integral Landscape Café | Scoop.it

Thrivability is a nascent philosophy which is currently being co-created by a network of social innovators and change agents throughout the world to address the challenges posed above… it is a positive and inclusive vision that is much more aspirational than sustainability. If sustainability is about asking the question ‘how do we fix the mess we’ve made?’, thrivability asks ‘what kind of world do we want to live in?’…

Networked_Performance — Art and Sustainability: Connecting Patterns for a Culture of Complexity

Networked_Performance — Art and Sustainability: Connecting Patterns for a Culture of Complexity | The Integral Landscape Café | Scoop.it

What is the cultural dimension of sustainability? This book offers a thought-provoking answer, with a theoretical synthesis on »cultures of sustainability«. Describing how modernity degenerated into a culture of unsustainability, to which the arts are contributing, Sacha Kagan engages us in a fundamental rethinking of our ways of knowing and seeing the world. We must learn not to be afraid of complexity, and to re-awaken a sensibility to patterns that connect. With an overview of ecological art over the past 40 years, and a discussion of art and social change, the book assesses the potential role of art in a much needed transformation process.

Knowledge Ecology and Speculation. Update of the ecological thought needed

Knowledge Ecology and Speculation. Update of the ecological thought needed | The Integral Landscape Café | Scoop.it

I suggest that the modes of thought we use to think about ecology need to change. We need a notion of ecology that implicates our psychology, technology, and economy without getting lost in the battle between making meaning and revealing meaning. Ecology is about science, yes, but it is also about the truth that ecological knowledge is not sufficient for solving ecological problems.

Common Ground in a Liquid City: Essays in Defense of an Urban Future :: AK Press

Common Ground in a Liquid City: Essays in Defense of an Urban Future :: AK Press | The Integral Landscape Café | Scoop.it

If we want to preserve what's still left of the natural world, we need to stop using so much of it. And cities are the best chance we have left for a sustainable future ... but only if they remain vibrant, dynamic spaces that are unfolded by millions of people working together—and not by master plans and planners. What will it take to make our cities truly sustainable?

In a world where the flow of money and jobs and people is largely determined by the whims of global capital, Matt Hern's Common Ground in a Liquid Cit rey is afreshingly down-to-earth look at the importance of place in the urban future.
