The Learning Revolution Conference - 21-25 April 2014 | The Information Professional | Scoop.it

We are pleased to announce the Learning Revolution Conference, online and free, April 21 - 25, 2014. Our goal is to bring together people who are thinking about learning from our important learning places: the school, library, museum, work, adult, online, non-traditional, and home learning worlds.

We want to explore and bridge the conversations about learning that are common to these worlds, including: learning theory, learning practice, learning science, learning space design, and technology for learning. The Internet is shifting the boundaries of these worlds and we believe that they will increasingly overlap and integrate. We also believe that conversations across these boundaries are critical to framing and preparing for the learning revolution starting to take place.

Well I think you should see it as a help for reflection on apps and use of apps. No tools are doing the hard work for you but they help you to remember what to cover.

@Cristian...I don't see it the same way. The criteria, in my opinion, do provide a useful framework for judging the efficacy of a web app. The value in the criteria is implicit; if one shares the values inherently stated in the criteria (for example, "authentic practice of targeted skills"), then I think the criteria are indeed helpful. If the values and meaning of the criteria do no speak to you, the reader, then I can see where one could feel they do not say anything. As Ove says, "no tools are doing the hard work for you."

Preservation Case Studies for Archives is an innovative educational experience that places the student in the role of the decision maker, where one has to balance both resources and constraints. Through a dynamic process of idea exchange, students first learn about the situation, then identify and analyse the problems to determine the causes, and finally develop alternative strategies for a solution. Preservation Case Studies for Archives provides the context for teaching the real world issues confronting archives staff and managers in a dynamic and exciting way. The students do most of the talking and are stimulated by learning in a supportive environment. Each case study contains important activities that help guide the direction and focus of the discussion by the teacher who leads through questioning and observation. Students learn from their fellow students’ experiences and perspectives in an exciting forum that puts them in the centre of real world situations and requires them to develop real world solutions.

About the Authors -- Jim Lindner and Mick Newnham have worked as lecturers and instructors teaching archive management for over two decades.

Allerlei bezuinigingen in het bibliotheekwerk kunnen ervoor zorgen dat de informatiewerker zich helemaal terugtrekt in zijn/haar schulp, vergelijkbaar met een zombieachtig leven. De Amerikaanse Zombie Fighters geven een aantal waardevolle tips, oa blijf leren en jezelf vernieuwen.

"... to the Parliamentary Select Committee's 'Inquiry into the 21st Century Learning Environments and Digital Literacy' with a submission that touched on a number of areas. One area that has really stuck with me is the point raised about how important the school library is, and will remain to be, within our 21st century learning environments. See the excerpts below:

From the written submission:

The traditional school library building would be a good place to start in the re-visioning process - a secondary school library presents the perfect environment for a shared learning environment that could be redeveloped to provide resources (books and Digital) ICT, media and production tools and spaces. 

and from the oral submission:

We need to see libraries as a strategic place to start this shift for all schools by ensuring that schools get the advice, guidance and funding they need to transform traditional libraries into multi-media multi-purpose learning commons and information centres. This would be a pragmatic way of ensuring all NZ students were able to access digital resources within a “21st Century Learning Environment” and therefore able to develop their digital competencies with an educational context."
