"[...] the slides I used for a UTS Shapeshifters event on Creative Futures. I was talking about the future of academic libraries, particularly our own and our role in a creative digital future. 
I should explain more about the 3rd slide. The things listed on that slide are often forgotten or discounted in the blind pursuit of efficiency or traditional KPIs. For libraries, these things (i.e. delight, surprise, engagement, serendipity and curiosity) are at least as important and should not be forgotten, dismissed or left until later."

"In recent decades, much has been said about the demographic changes that New York City shares with the rest of the world. Yes, we are getting older!
One widespread response has been a surge of programs to promote creativity in mid- and later life."

"The success of all of these classes, and the enthusiastic response of library staff witnessing them, has spurred us on to again join with Lifetime Arts — this time with several library systems throughout New York State — to participate in Creative Aging in New York State Libraries in 2012-2013. This will enable us to offer about 18 Creative Aging courses in 2013. Branches hosting the classes will be announced in January 2013."

"As librarians, we have an opportunity and an obligation to create spaces and instruction that cultivate our students' creativity.  Our spaces, our flexibility and our skills make the library the perfect place to turn kids loose: to give them the chance to imagine, explore, create and share.  Along the way, they'll make mistakes and plenty of messes, but that's how we all learn.  We may not all have access to the APPs I've shared in this post, but we've all got access to something far more important:  kids.  All of whom are eager and ready to get started!"

"Until library organizations – and librarians as a profession – become more creative in finding solutions to becoming more relevant to their community, we will continue to get the “Why do we need libraries?” question. Aren’t you tired of that question? I know I am."
