NEWS: Free online learning courses available from Slough Libraries http://t.co/zb1UqFLtaI
These exciting new learning packages, known as Universal Class and Transparent Language Courses, provides members of Slough Libraries access to over 350 online courses and 80 foreign language courses free of charge. The courses are available online 24 hours a day, so fit well into busy schedules, whether that’s college, work, childcare, or a combination of the three. Universal Class offers a fantastic range of topics, from hobbies to technology, business skills to health. As the courses are free, there’s no risk – members can try something they’ve always wanted to, or something they’ve never thought of. Members can register for up to five courses at once, and there’s no commitment on a course if you change your mind.

Sheila Webber: The Road to Information Literacy: Librarians as Facilitators of Learning was a conference that took place last week in Tampere, Finland, as a pre-conference satellite of the IFLA conference. Law Librarian Blog: Digital Access Isn't Everything: Digital Access Isn't Everything.
There is a great article in the Chronicle of Higher Education (subscription required) by Brian Cowan, 'Digital Natives' Aren't Necessarily Digital Learners, which takes on the concept of digital natives as digital learners, and concludes that while technology may deliver information in convenient ways, it will not necessarily motivate individuals to learn.
Cowan describes four myths of digital learning: Myth 1: Digital natives are automatically digital learners. Myth 2: Students prefer using technology to learn. Myth 3: Cyberspace is the new classroom. Myth 4: Today's students are multitaskers. Delete the scoop?

A space for Australians and New Zealanders to learn the 23 Mobile Things
ALIA NGAC (Australian Library and Information Association New Generation Advisory Committee) and New Professionals Network NZ have teamed up to offer an Australian/New Zealand course based on the 23 Mobile Things course by Jan Holmquist. We are running this course from May-November 2013 and it currently has nearly 300 participants signed up! Come and join us in our learning journey.

Well I think you should see it as a help for reflection on apps and use of apps. No tools are doing the hard work for you but they help you to remember what to cover.

@Cristian...I don't see it the same way. The criteria, in my opinion, do provide a useful framework for judging the efficacy of a web app. The value in the criteria is implicit; if one shares the values inherently stated in the criteria (for example, "authentic practice of targeted skills"), then I think the criteria are indeed helpful. If the values and meaning of the criteria do no speak to you, the reader, then I can see where one could feel they do not say anything. As Ove says, "no tools are doing the hard work for you."
