"Arts Council England and the LGA have developed guiding principles which will assist local authorities who are considering reviewing the delivery of their library services to work with their communities.

Some of these guiding principles include:

the importance of local authorities taking a strategic view across their whole library servicethat there is no one model recommended for community involvement – locally appropriate solutions usually work bestthat community libraries are testing new approaches to library service delivery

A trio of students from the Miami Ad School—Max Pilwat, Keri Tan and Ferdi Rodriguez—have came up with an innovative concept that allows people to read the first ten pages of popular books while riding the subway. 

Using near field communications (NFC) technology, commuters select the desired book from a list of popular titles and read its first ten pages—upon finishing, the reader will be informed of the closest library location from which they can pick up and read the rest of the book.

I would also just like the option to download the book afterwards! Not only to go and get it at a nearby library...

"It expects to house over a thousand images by 2013. This library freely lends out a reminder that we’re all capable of traveling to great depths within ourselves and as a whole.

The NYC Reading-Riders are a plentiful and diverse group. They’re engaged in a simultaneous journey, one that takes them towards their daily pursuits as well as towards a greater sense of themselves and our world. This project takes a closer look at them in celebration and revelation.

I’m Ourit. I take and post these pictures along with some behind the scenes stories and thoughts. I’m fascinated by how we apply ourselves to stories and discourse. In so doing, we shape the course of who we understand ourselves to be."

"Travelers of the Catalan Government Railways (Ferrocarrils de la Generalitat de Catalunya) will have plenty to read over the coming months as the trains are turned into virtual libraries where 40 books are displayed on posters. After scanning a book’s QR code, travelers are enabled to read the first chapter of every book.
