The World Heritage Site of Pattadakal deserves more than just a cursory glance. 
Eversince I had come back from this Trek last year, I could not get enough time to put it in black and white since eventhereafter I was either travelling or was busy in office. 
5th - 7th October 2011Amboli is a hill station in Sawanthawadi district of Maharashtra. Being close to Belagavi (70km) it attracts lot of tourists from North Karnataka region. Amboli is famous for its waterfalls and viewpoints. 
A previous account here way back in 2009. 
2011 has been a memorable year in more ways than one. It brought me not just more opportunities for travel, but also brought me some much needed boost in the form of recognition as a travel blogger! 
because life is a great adventure ... We hiked for a little more than an hour and over several very rough bridges before we reached the level of the Dudh Khosi and crossed our first suspension bridge of the trek. 
Got to know about this retreat from the always helpful Aravind, Sankara and Amit. 
Rock slides and blizzards turn a mountain trek into a voyage of endurance and a little discovery. ... But like most adventurous trips, almost nothing goes to plan -- we veer far off our anticipated route. "Ladakh is a perfect place to trek looking at the harmony between different religions, mainly Tibetan Buddhism and Muslims. Spent a lazy Sunday afternoon at the Sanjay Gandhi National Park in 
30th August 2011Another road side falls!! This is at the beginning of Hulikal ghat. As you start descending from Mastikatte (last town before the ghat) you see Chandikamba Temple on your right side. People make a stop here before proceeding further.

Our trip to Pattadakal was a hurried one, and we had time only to visit some of the main temples. Come along with me as I go over the same path once more..... 
Beautiful roses sold as offerings, don't make the mistake of smelling them before making the offering!

8th October 2011Hooli is a small village in Belagavi district which is about 10km from the religious place of Savadatti. It was once a great place of learning and art. It was a site of nearly 100 Temples! 
Last visit to Madiwala lake was quite some time ago and I was put off by the stench and bad maintenance.

8th October 2011The beauty of Sogala lies in its approach. After travelling for a long time on plain land, the view of the hills come as a respite. And a waterfall suddenly appears as we enter the Sogala village. 
Pattadakal is on my mind...Its been almost a year since I visited the World Heritage Site, but the memories of the consummate artistic talent are as fresh as if it were yesterday! 
Most trekkers combine their trek to Deoria Tal with a trek to Tunganath. Tunganath is the highest Hindu shrine devoted to Lord Shiva and ChandraShila both of which are approached from Chopta. Walk, Trek, Hike and Reach. 
22 October 2011My friends Aishwarya and Rakesh Holla had been to this place before. The photos shared were awesome which prompted me to visit Devaramane. 
I was covered in mud afterward. After that adventure, Dan declared that we had in fact succeeded in reaching his goal of mild risk of death status on the trip. ... Done hiking! 
Orissa's Bagh Nritya or Tiger Dance is an ancient folk performance. Actors smear their entire body with yellow varnish and black spots & stripes. They wear a tail made of cloth, a bell on one ankle and a fabulous set of hand-crafted ears. |
